No one on the team is a minus yet.

Havlat looks like his pre San Jose days. I was saying this last night.

Not quite what he was in Ottawa, but a step up from where he was in San Jose.

He was no bum in San Jose either, just wanna stress this. I watch almost all of their games. He's fitting in quite nicely here. I think he'll be even better than Sykora was for us a few years ago. He just needs to stay healthy, but I'm loving this signing so far. It would have annoyed me if that's the only signing we made, but he's a good secondary guy. He's also on a very cheap contract.

Schneider must be so happy with how things are shaping up. If the guy gets the wins and keeps his averages in a full season, he'll be on the podium at some cheesy award ceremony thanking his defense and Mr. Lamoriello for the opportunity.

It's worked out for the best for all teams post Canucks.

Luongo gets to go back to wife's hometown and where he was comfortable.

Cory becomes a starter and given his own franchise.

Vancouver gets Miller and Lack.

I'm especially proud that the guys have yet to trail in a game in the new season. Hopefully these are the signs of good things to come this season.

Hey Bleed how did Zubrus look in person last night? I know you've been beating him up lately but he's been pretty solid so far.

Totally agree. Wasn't there something with San Jose not using him right when he was there? It sounded like there was a disconnect between him and Mclellan. He just never fit there. I'm loving what I'm seeing out of him right now.

Its only 3 games but he has looked very solid so far

Im still convinced he was nursing an injury(ies) last year and believe it more now after seeing his movement and fluidness on the ice back to how it was prior to last year - and then you have Patty saying yesterday, albeit in a ball breaking manner, that Zubrus is always nursing something

Yeah he definitely has a bit more jump. He looks a lot different since he's not laboring out there with something nagging him. Hopefully he keeps it up.

last night was the most impressive of the three so far in my opinion from the aspect that, they got pushed around early and found their game against what looks to be a pretty good team on the road.

the only problem right now with our team is Salvador, and the fact that he should be the seventh defenseman and or certainly should be the guy that sits if we want o give Larsson a look

speed is still an issue but we are a hair faster than last year

We're not really playing noticeably different from last year, at least in my eyes, we're just getting the bounces we didn't get last year.

Severson's goal vs Florida doesn't happen last year
Cammalleri's goal vs Tampa doesn't happen last year
Schneider/Ruutu's combo to stop the wraparound vs Tampa is in last year

etc.

We just seem to be a step ahead mentally of where we were last year.

pretty good point and I agree a little but when you add in the skill level of cammarlari and havlet and the full time play of severson and gelinas for puck movement this is a different team offensively, last year the breaks did not go the devils way but you can't put it all on bad luck they simply have a few more offensive weapons right now and goaltending is better

It's hard to say how he'll be offensively, but he's been great on the PK in every game so far. Still a little worried he might not produce much offensively though.

I think the injuries just messed up his groove there, but he did see some 4th line time at the end. I believe they really would have bought him out after 2013, but he wasn't cleared medically. So they couldn't buy him out.

We still dont know what can Cammer and Henrique put together in possible playoffs. Can they carry the offense? That will be intriguing. Need a great supporting cast from the likes of Zubrus.

Remember when people were worried about knocking Elias or Henrique down to the "third line"? I'd say it's worked pretty well so far.

There is far less dump and chase and so much more carrying in...Far less cycling (which I'm not happy about), the breakouts have been totally revamped and a drop pass to get a player with a head-of-steam carrying the puck has been added to both the PP and regular breakout...The defense is also pinching far less (which I am happy about but it seems to be a byproduct of less cycling)

There are significant differences in the way the team is playing this year.

I see a quick give and go being practiced by everyone as a first option coming out of the end and through the neutral zone, and "move the puck to the opposite team's slot as quickly as possible, no one holding onto it long" -

we saw it in camp and see it now, and it looks quite different than prior seasons

QUESTION also - how many games did it take the Devils to get to 6 points last year? Could have been nearly ten games as I remember.

Shots and passes from the point are also more effective this year thanks to a lack of grenade handlers. You have much slicker passing and shooting as opposed to shots into pads or way off target.

They are definitely making more of an effort to carry the puck in on both 5 on 5 and the PP. 1st line especially, they all like to carry it in.
