After 78,000 fans (world cup and indoor record) came to watch the opener of the 2010 IIHF World Championship in Veltins-Arena, Gelsenkirchen and 50,000 came to see a league game between Nürnberg and Berlin in 2013, Germany has set yet another record.

The 2nd DEL Winter game between Düsseldorf and Cologne had an attendance of 51,125 and is a new record for a league game in European hockey.

Anyone thinking another European nation could set an even more impressive record? Anything known about plans yet? What about Sweden, Finland, Russia?

The biggest stadium in Finland (the Helsinki Olympic Stadium) has a capacity of 39 784, so Finland couldn't beat the European record. Three hockey games have been held there, the highest attendance being 36 644.
