Interesting. Well, I'll post the template here for who the 8 teams will probably be for Bettman's 2024 world cup, and people can fill in the rosters. Just trying to help everyone out.

"European Group"

- Team Scandinavia:

- Team Slavic Nations:

- Team "Europe":

- Team 2023 Spengler Cup Winners:

"North American Group"

- Team Canada:

- Team USA:

- Team North America U-23:

- Team Arizona Coyotes:

Hopefully they give us some evenly matched teams like last time, that was a lot of fun.

Canada West
USA West
USA East

Sweden
Finland
Former Czechoslovakia
Team Europe (everyone else)

That’s 8 teams. All should be competitive.

You still go Doughty making a best best Team Canada in 2 years time? I don't.

“Established” was for “right now.” It’s hard to project two years out, during which time an unknown number of players could break out. If I had to give it a shot:

Quinn-McDavid-Marner
Huberdeau-Thomas-MacKinnon
Lafreniere-Crosby-Marchand
Point-Suzuki-McTavish
Batherson, Byfield

Byram-Makar
Chabot-Dobson
Power-Ekblad
Chychrun, Drysdale

Hart
Jarry
someone not under consideration right now

February window is the most interesting part of that. Could be a very good tournament if the NHL doesn't f*** it up as it did in 2016.

Ugh, no thanks.

When national pride is at stake, with no silly gimmick teams, you’d be surprised who can be competitive.

Carlson, Jones, Trouba, Thompson, and Kreider at minimum will have been supplanted by better young Americans two years from now. Guys like Sanderson, L. Hughes, and Beniers are the top candidates to do so.

Surprised you don’t have Brady Tkachuk.

In less than two years? I doubt it although there could be some risers. Brady Tkachuk is a serious candidate.

Yes, we should just skip the formalities and go straight to a best 4 out of 7 final Canada v USA.

The US hasn’t been this solid from top to bottom since the 90s.

They look more well-balanced than Canada.

Could be a huge opportunity for them to bag a best on best.

But I’d never count out Finland or Sweden in a single game elimination situation.
