Imagine if they drafted Kirill Kaprizov with any of their picks in the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th round in 2015...

ChatGPT is good for creating the interview questions. Just another job that's being replaced by AI.

Sure! Here are 40 examples of unusual questions that could be asked during NHL draft combine player interviews:

  1. If you could have dinner with any three people, dead or alive, who would they be and why?
  2. Describe your ideal day off.
  3. If you were an animal, which one would you be and why?
  4. How would your best friend describe you in three words?
  5. What is the most recent book you read and what did you learn from it?
  6. If you could have any superpower, what would it be and how would you use it?
  7. What is your biggest fear and how do you confront it?
  8. If you could switch lives with anyone for a day, who would it be and what would you do?
  9. Describe a time when you had to overcome a significant challenge. What did you learn from it?
  10. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
  11. What would you do if you found a penguin in the freezer?
  12. Describe your dream car.
  13. If you were a kitchen appliance, which one would you be and why?
  14. What's your favorite movie and what life lesson did you take away from it?
  15. If you could choose any job besides being a professional hockey player, what would it be?
  16. What’s your favorite ice cream flavor and why?
  17. How do you handle pressure in high-stress situations?
  18. What historical figure do you admire the most and why?
  19. If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
  20. How would you spend a million dollars if you had to spend it all in a week?
  21. Describe a time when you had to be a leader.
  22. What's the best piece of advice you've ever received?
  23. If you were a superhero, what would your name and costume be?
  24. What's your favorite childhood memory?
  25. If you could instantly learn any skill, what would it be?
  26. What do you think is the most important quality in a teammate?
  27. Describe your perfect weekend.
  28. If you had to be on a reality TV show, which one would you choose and why?
  29. What's the strangest thing you've ever eaten?
  30. If you could invent a new sport, what would it be and how would it be played?
  31. What is your guilty pleasure song?
  32. How do you stay motivated during tough times?
  33. If you could meet your future self, what question would you ask?
  34. What's one thing you can't live without?
  35. If you could change one rule in hockey, what would it be?
  36. Describe a time when you had to make a difficult decision. What was the outcome?
  37. If you had to live in a different era, which one would you choose and why?
  38. What's your favorite way to relax after a game?
  39. If you were a character in a movie, which character would you be and why?
  40. What would you do if you woke up one morning and discovered you were invisible?
Some of these are sort of bangers.

The 2024 draft will be John Rosso's first draft class after taking over as the new Director of Amateur Scouting from Al Murray right after the 2023 draft. There is a little bit of reshuffling of the staff, but it mostly remains the same.

In 2023, Murray had 2 assistant directors of amateur scouting - Grant Sonier and Brad Whelen. Under Rosso, Whelen is back to being an amateur scout, and Sonier has been let go. There are no new assistant directors, but the Lightning did hire John Riley to be the head amateur scout. He joins the Lightning after 15 years with the Flyers organization as an amateur scout and developmental coach.

Brian Putnam, who has been an amateur scout for the lightning since Al Murray put together his original staff in 2010 has moved over to be a pro scout. He is replaced by Casey Borer as the new college scout. This is Borer's first time as a scout.

Amateur scout Gord Weatherall has also been let go after 5 years with the Lightning.

2024:

Director of Amateur Scouting - John Rosso

Head Amateur Scout - John Riley

Amateur Scout - Marc-Andre Bourdon
Amateur Scout - John Burkart
Amateur Scout - Josh Dye
Amateur Scout - Rob Kitamura
Amateur Scout - Brad Whelen
European Scout - Mikael Andersson
European Scout - Kari Kettunen
European Scout - Anton Routa
European Scout - Yuri Yanchenkov
College Scout - Casey Borer
Goaltending Scout - Jared Waimon

Corey Pronman's top 129

Here are some prospects Pronman has ranked near the end of the 4th round:

Hagen Burrows - 6'2" winger for Minnetonka High in Minnesota. Burrows was named Minnesota's Mr. Hockey as the top high school player in the state. He also played a little bit in the USHL putting up 22 points in 25 games with Sioux City. He's committed to Denver University. There are some interesting connections for Burrows. First is that John Rosso is from Minnetonka. When John Rosso was an amateur scout he primarally scouted Minnesota high schools and the USHL. The Lightning have taken 3 Minnesota high school kids in recent years with Sammy Walker (Edina), Nick Perbix (Elk River), and Jayson Shaugabay (Warroad), with Walker and Shaugabay also being Mr. Hockey winners. It would be interesting if these things draw the Lightning to Burrows with Rosso's first selection.

Matvei Babenko - 6'3" Russian winger. He's from and plays for the same junior team as Vasy did in Ufa. Scored 22 goals in 40 games in the MHL last year as a 17 year old. Numbers were not as good this season as an 18 year old (only 5 goals in 25 MHL games), but did get promoted to the VHL and then 8 games with the KHL club. After taking a Russian born player for 6 straight drafts the Lightning have not selected one in the past 2 years. Is that just the way our draft boards have played out, or are the Lightning scouts just not as comfortable drafting those players with fewer viewings and rescources than before?

Evan Gardner - Goalie for the Saskatoon in the WHL. 21-5-0 record in his first WHL season. His .927 SV%, and 1.91 GAA were #1 among all goalies in the WHL. He was second in shutouts with 4. Lost to Moose Jaw in the WHL playoffs, (who would go on to win the WHL championship) in 7 games with 6 of them being settled in OT. The WHL lists him as 6'2", but NHL central scouting says he's 6'0" which would be Dustin Tokarski size.

Nicholas Kempf - Starter for the US in goal at the U-18s where they won silver. His .919 SV% and 1.89 GAA were best in the tournament. He's a future Notre Dame commit. He's listed as 6'2".

Carter George - Goaltender for Owen Sound in the OHL. Made the OHL's all rookie team this season. Starter for Canada at the Hlinka tournament, and the U-18s, winning gold both times. Beat Kempf out for the top goalie award at the U-18s too. Only 6'1". The Lightning need another goalie prospect in the system with the exit of Hugo Alnefelt, and Malik not earning a contract. Maybe one of Gardner, Kempf, or George fit the bill, even if they aren't Vasy or Johansson size.
