Quick thoughts... prospect risers and fallers.
Based on that 3-game sample.
Risers
Chibrikov - really dynamic in the last two games, and improved period by period. Dynamic skill and creativity. Played with some jam. He looks like the small 2nd round forward we always hoped Petan would be (much better skater). Definitely looks like he has NHL potential. Based on that tournament, I'd take him over Coronato.
Lambert - Meh first game, but as the games progressed his speed and puck control started to shine. Was one of the few players that was able to display individual skill. He seems to lack finishing ability, but he's a problem on the rush. Didn't notice issues with effort or defensive focus, and he's a willing passer.
Salomonsson - Overall, the Jets' D was a gong show. Good luck to Morrison and the Moose this season. But Salomonsson was notably solid in his defensive play and puck movement. A goal and an assist and some confidence on the point were nice to see.
Zhilkin - Really hard to know where he ends up in his pro career, but he showed very good skating, good puck control, solid decisions, and defensive responsibility. Seems to have a pro game that will translate into a bottom-6 C.
Fallers
Kuzmin - I'd hoped he would show more. He has some nice skills, but his defense and puck decisions make him a long way from an NHL caliber.
Lundmark - Atrocious in games 1 and 2, with terrible decisions.
Kniazev - What a great skater, with a lot of dash and confidence. The problem is that he gives the puck away too much and gets caught on high risk pinches too much. His skill is obvious, and maybe he'll settle down outside a prospect tournament. But he was all chaos, and often in a bad way.
Lucius - It's harsh to include him here, considering his injuries and rehab. You can see the hands and creative thinking, but he doesn't have the pace to execute at this point. I guess I hoped he would be further along, but that was optimistic. He still shows potential because of his hockey sense, but he needs a long, healthy run to get up to speed and make plays vs. pro players.
Steady
Torgersson - I have reasonable optimism for Torgersson, and I don't think he disappointed. Nothing special, but certainly more involved and lots more puck touches. Could be a bottom 6 forward someday with that speed and size.
Barlow - Nothing too special, but you could see the smarts and the hands and the scoring penchant in several of his shifts. I have a high regard for him, and though he wasn't special he wasn't a disappointment.
I haven't commented on most of the others because I don't have high hopes. Ford had some good play. Bauer struggles defensively and in puck movement, but commentators seem to think he's doing a good job clearing the crease after he gives up chances.
Goalies looked good, but who knows?
