People are likely way too high on Wyatt Kaiser and way too low on Alex Vlasic, imo. Their spots could easily be flipped.

I'm high on Aiden Thompson too but he was a (2-year) over-ager when the Hawks drafted him last year. It doesn't mean he won't be an NHL caliber player some day but being 1 or 2 year older then your draft class is a factor to consider.

With the benefit of the World Junior Summer Showcase, Nazar might be just a bit behind Korchinski in the voting.

Nah Kaiser is phenomenal. Quite easily the second best defensive prospect in the system right now. Stepped onto Duluth’s campus as an 18 year old who’d played 10 games of competition that was better than Minnesota high school and was their 1D right away (and has only kept getting better). Plus skater, competent puck mover, intelligent defender. Everything you want in a modern defenseman

I only saw a few of his games at UMD but I thought he looked very good in the 9 games he played with the Hawks at the end of the season. He got caught up ice several times but everything else he did was very good - in my opinion he looked much better than Vlassic (6 games) and Phillips (16 games).

I agree, I think he is the closest comparable to a Duncan Keith currently in the system.

Stylistically yes he has some similarities to Keith. I think they generate offense in different ways though. Kaiser generates offensively when he’s the one pushing the pace and carrying the puck into the offensive zone. Keith certainly liked to jump in and be involved offensively but he wasn’t a big puck carrier

Honestly - just thrilled by the depth and quality of the pipeline, even before the next couple of drafts where the Hawks have a ton of quality picks. I can't remember the time where there were guys who I felt had significant NHL potential who couldn't make the top 20.

As I already mentioned in one of the threads Kantserov at 13 while Safonov not even in the top 20 is just too much of a 'shiny new toy' thing for my understanding lol.

I think we're just not too familiar with them yet. But we are getting there, because you simply can't ignore what those two are doing. Very happy to have them and excited for what they will become.

I'm pretty confident in saying that this list will look much different come next year, and easy to see those two moving up significantly after more exposure.

He's a 2nd round pick with a ton of skill. His ceiling is much, much higher imo, Safonov is more of a safer bet to get NHL time.

Yes I agree with that, Keith would move the puck up ice and then support the offence as the next wave.

Kaiser in his limited viewings with the team last year did seem to prefer to carry it himself which lead to him getting caught a few times. I think as his game matures you will see more puck movement and less carrying of the puck.

I think the good news there is that he skates well enough to carry the puck even though he will need to improve his decision making of when to carry it and when not to.

Damn that was boring.

Reichel would have been first choice but game in round 4.

Kaiser and Guttman were my votes. Voted only ones that seen play.
