You buyout PLD, from '26 to '31, the teams cap hit total will be close to $17.5 million! In 3 straight years, the Kings will have a cap hit of almost $4 million per year eating up their salary cap space!
the bulk of the cap hit will be no more than 3 league minimum players. and in those 3 years where it jumps up to almost $4 million, the Kings are not going to be competitive. They're already not going to be competitive in the next 5-10 years if PLD is kept, so it's actually a savings on the time the Kings stay shitty.

the difference is that in those years where they're paying PLD to NOT play for them, they'll be stocking up high draft picks vs those years where they're paying him TO play where they'll be barely making the playoffs and getting destroyed in the first round and getting middling picks.

people who keep thinking that this roster is a few moves away from being a contender is deluding themselves. Kopitar and Doughty, as great as they are, are only going to get older and they're never going to relinquish their time on the ice.

Strongly disagree with most of what you said, as you are basing somewhat of what you just said are assumptions. Its too long to predict the future for 5 - 10 years down the road.

Roy can walk in Free Agency. They can use the $5 million cost to re-sign towards a goalie!
I don’t understand why anyone is surprised by Roy. Given he’s supposed to be a defensive specialist he gives the puck away in his own zone for fun. The numbers are pretty clear on it, that every time he’s under pressure he gives it away… sometimes when he isn’t.

That is nothing compared to paying him $8.5 million for SEVEN more years.

The penalty for a buyout is miniscule compared to the cost of 7 more years of a nothing player clogging up your cap and disrupting your culture.

And forget about a trade, it's not going to happen.

For 14 years? As an owner, you find a new GM and coach that can find a way to get this guy going within the roster. TMac was terrible getting the most offense from our forwards and Hiller is not much better.
you don't want a lazy guy making that much money around for all your youth to look at and resent or admire. You don't want that guy in the locker room making it seem to be ok to play that way. You either put him in the minors buy him out or find some sucker to take him (i don't think you will find a 4th team to take a chance). As an owner you have to make a product people want to watch and PLD is being paid like a Face of the Franchise player. This is not a guy you want being the face of your franchise as an owner.

Overall its a terrible situation everyone saw except Luc and Blake.

The thing about LA/EDM is that LA has to have so much go right to eke out a victory. Oilers just have to turn it up a bit after a poor performance. They always make the adjustments needed.

That pp has destroyed LA three playoffs in a row. LAs pp has literally done Jack shit. Stagnant per usual.

Kings could win another game but the series looks like toast which isn’t a surprise. McDavid is too much. He wills that team to victory banking passes off Hyman.

I hate that turds like Kane and Perry are on that team too. Free pickups due to douchebaggery.

The best pickup they made was Ekholm. I was hoping LA would get him over Gav honestly.

The Oilers won’t beat a Vegas or Florida but they can put on their world beater facade against LA every year. Just sucks having to watch it.

Something about Kopitar never standing up for teammates.

His play has really slipped in the latter stages of the season...Blake not moving him just anothet example of horrible asset mgmt.

If the Kings trade PLD for another bad contract, they have a larger cap hit for the next few years. The buyout provides the most cap space and retains all assets. The most expensive years of a buyout are right after Kopitar's contract expires. The out years of the buyout is equivalent to a single minimum contract a year. Everything lines up perfectly for a buyout.

Kuemper is done. He wasn't good last year and then had a kid at the beginning of this season. He is simply collecting paychecks and not focused at all on hockey. Do not want at all.

The Caps don't need junk like PLD after trading Kuzy and Mantha. He would be a 3c there too behind Strome and McMichael.

PLD is not the reason the Kings are losing to Edmonton.

We can’t score or keep up with them offensively, Hiller refuses to play the 4th line and name me a team that won the cup that didn’t have impactful 4th line, the defense has been terrible, and the Kings are taking bad penalties and the refs aren’t helping.

Also, though Talbot has made some great saves he has allowed almost 20 goals in 3 games. That’s not Jonathan Quick circa 2012.

In addition, Blake had the Kings hand cuffed even before the PLD deal. AI, Kupari and Vilardi basically basically the same as PLD. So we were up against the cap anyways.

The amount of money given to PLD, Gavrikov, Kopitar, and Doughty baffle me.

Turcotte, Thomas and Clarke should all be playing. I was a big Matt Roy fan but he’s been invisible during the playoffs so you can basically slot Clarke in that spot next year. Ideally, you want someone more physical with Clarke. I would have pressed more for Chychrun and less for Gavrikov. Would give the Kings the chance to put Chychrun on the PP and occasionally play with Doughty.

The one bright spot, is the Kings pushed back physically but again, it all fell on Englund. They had the chance to pick up Duhaine, Maroon, Dewar, and Trenin at the deadline and instead did nothing.

Have you a clear picture of our cap situation?
Once PLD contract will kick in, we’ll be f***ed for the next decade. We can only hope the new GM will prevent this from happening.
Kings have horrible roster with bad management and poor coaching and you cannot see any problems but PLD.

This is ridiculous.

This is par for the course in these Oilers-Kings playoff series.

When the Oilers win, they often blow us out. Kings might eek out one more win to get the series to 6 games.
Yep. There have been some real ass kickings during these playoff series.

My annual update on Kings home playoff record since the 2014 Cup:

2-10

This team doesn't really give a crowd anything to cheer for except when they score since they aren't physical and play a boring system. We have no home ice advantage.

As for last night, the one goal came off an actual big hit on the forecheck. Hitting causes turnovers? Who knew?

He did it last season until Gavrikov arrived and he then settled for that strong spell Gavrikov had. He benefited from it and was easily moveable with his value at it’s peak.

I literally yelled out, "What the f*ck are you doing?" when they went into the 1-3-1 right before Edmonton's 2nd goal. You could see that goal developing all the way. I just don't get the inability for this team to learn from their mistakes and adjust.
