They are just prepping for Grundstrom's imminent return.

But in all honesty, there isn't really a legit argument that Kaliyev makes the Kings any better than giving the hotter hands a few extra shifts. Kaliyev put himself in this hole. He had been coughing up pucks left and right at the top of the circles and regularly getting lost in defensive coverages. His last 10-15 games may have been the worst individual games of any player this year, and with Dubois that says a lot.

But bigger picture, he can't play the aggressive style of game the Kings want out of their wingers. He's no slash skater, he is a lousy forechecker and doesn't pressure anyone on the backcheck. He is a terrible fit for this system, but there is hope because the system itself needs to change.
