Flyers at #12 can move up winning lotto but not to #1 pick

One of the two new rules that have been implemented at the 2022 draft is that teams will be restricted from moving up more than 10 spots if they win one of the lottery draws. So whichever teams are slotted between No. 12-16 cannot get the No. 1 pick. If they do win either the No. 1 or No. 2 drawing, they will move up 10 spots in the order, but that is it.

Final forward scoring totals...Remember, all the points are written as a per 82 game played season. Only 3 forwards played all 82, Hathaway, Farabee and Laughton.

I added my rankings and a few notes on each player. The rankings are based on my opinion relative to my overall expectations for each player. For example, I gave Tippett an A, but if TK had the season Tippett had, it would be a C-.

Owen Tippett	12.98​	29	26	55	9.69	8.62	131%	A	Tippett was awesome this year. I don't know how he gets much better than what he was this season. Lead the team in 5v5 per min scoring. Still has limitations, but basically he was as good as he could be.
Scott Laughton	11.87​	13	26	39	7.78	9.35	130%	D	Really good production numbers for him, but everything else was terrible. Had a stretch of scoring around the middle of the year, where otherwise this would have been an F. Not a great season from Laughton IMO.
Tyson Foerster	13.95​	22	14	36	11.98	9.47	109%	B+	More on the rookies in another post - very good season from Foerster.
Joel Farabee	13.31​	22	28	50	12.09	8.21	100%	B	I went back and forth on Farabee's ranking. He didn't have a great finish to the season, but all in all, he bounced back from a bad season pretty well. His usage was odd, despite being one of the 5v5 scoring leaders throughout the season, he never really had a consistent linemates/center.
Travis Konecny	14.20​	36	38	74	13.47	9.69	90%	B+	The only legit top line player on the team - performed liked it. Carried the team on his back lots of times. I still think he's a point per game player with another top-line player.
Garnet Hathaway	10.65​	7	10	17	6.8	7.51	85%	B	Another strong season for Hathaway. I don't like that he has a bit of a dirty side to him, but he's a very good depth winger who continues to produce quality results.
Sean Couturier	13.28​	12	30	42	5.73	8.99	84%	C	Didn't finish the season strong, but also played with some really bad linemates over the last 30ish games. This season was always about health, so in that regard it's a win.
Bobby Brink	11.27​	16	17	33	13.58	8.57	83%	C+	More on the rookies in another post - Brink had some positive moments, but need more from him.
Morgan Frost	12.40​	15	32	47	9.63	8.14	76%	B-	Despite a poor start and finish to the seaon, Frost finished with a decent point production season. He did so providing quality defense and tilting the ice in the favor of the Flyers more often than not. I still think, given the right conditions (and not with this coach) he could flirt with 60 points.
Cam Atkinson	11.85​	15	18	33	7.47	7.44	73%	D-	Much worse than his stats suggested. Cam's season was about health just like Coots, but it was clear early in the season that Atkinson lost a step…But we get to watch him for one more season.
Noah Cates	11.12​	8	17	25	7.69	6.65	71%	B	He looks much more comfortable on the wing. He is what everyone thought Laughton was when he came into the league.
Nicolas Deslauriers	8.02​	1	4	5	2.04	4.43		F	Even for Delo, this season was rough….Two more years.

Considering how bad some of the contracts are, how I don't trust Briere to actually make a good trade to make cap space, and how there is a lack of centers in the pipeline other than Michkov, yeah, Flyers are def going to be in the race for top 5 next year.

Management's plan was to lie about rebuilding, make the playoffs, and smugly bask in adoration at being so far ahead of schedule. It is a shame there will be no self-reflection or learning from their humiliation. They definitely have no idea what went wrong. They likely agree with everything Tortorella has done, and they are so full of themselves they cannot consider that they f***ed up. So they're going to blame the players. As always. And the fact that management got embarrassed like this means they'll be vengeful.

It is probable that they will seek to do some really dumb stuff with purges. And also continuing into Year 13 of their Cultural Revolution, where so far the only thing they've mastered is Struggle Sessions. I haven't looked to see what Culture Guys are available yet. I bet the one linkage they make is "Walker was the key." Their new Niskanen, except this time they have the ability to make him come back by casting a spell called Terrible Contract.

Next year is going to be worse. Prepare yourselves! Preparation is a positive activity. And my warning here is positive because it lets you prepare.

Additionally, because they kept the committee that made this roster, the roster is filled with players they think are good but are not. They have blindness to the problems. They don't know how to fix the issues they've made. That's why it was such a disaster to keep the same management group intact. There was essentially no "fresh set of eyes comes in and evaluates" period. Aside from Tortorella getting rid of guys he personally hates.

They went from 26th to 21st, so maybe 23rd or 24th next season.

Between them and Petersen, likely looking at buyouts. Just depends on if they want to stomach having so many buyouts on their cap. They didn’t with Hayes when they should have.

But people want to compare them to the Rangers, and they didn’t have a problem with it.

keep him and ride it out. real simple. I have no issue seeing what he can do after a summer of rest.
