Getzlaf was a low end 1/high end 2C over his first 18 games, where he had 19 points. After the injuries, he was a 3. Some games when he clearly shouldn’t have been playing, he was a 4.

For one brief, glorious moment in his last game, he was a 1C again.

I think your analysis is fair. But I have a slightly different take. Regardless of his production, what role was Getz playing on the ducks? I think even late in the year he was eating up some of the tougher minutes and therefore sheltering Zegras a bit. Zegras definitely got better matchups because of that - and Getzlaf's numbers probably suffered since he wasn't playing down in the lineup.

Ottawa is building nicely. They have a good mix of young forwards.

I've been rewatching some of our games from last year and yeah, it sucks that guys like Getz, Manson and Lindholm aren't around, but you know who else isn't around? Simon. ZAR. Sustr. Lettieri. Mayhew. Probably Mahura. All of them replaced by either objectively better players (except Getz, I won't hear criticism of him) or players that we can be legitimately excited about (at least until we see how they do).

It's obviously not a contending roster or anything, .500 seems like a good goal, but it isn't depressing either.

Of course lol I'd do that easily. Robertson is an absolute stud.
He's a California kid too. Played youth hockey out here before his Dad picked up the family and moved them out East for his development. He played Mite Travel with my cousin on the LA Selects.

The Stars had $7.8M in cap space with a 20 man roster before this signing. They currently have 3 goalies on 1 ways, so likely Khudobin will be traded or sent to the AHL.

There appears to be more sandpaper in this roster compared to last year. And we aren't even including the TDL forwards. McTavish may be the 13th forward who alternates in for games. Regenda didn't play in the NHL and couldn't include any stats from his European play.

As a group, we might have improved being more difficult to play against this year. We do have a lot of unknowns with Jones, Regenda, and McTavish. Jones and Regenda have had very good pre-season thus far.

The late addition of Kulikov add a far more positive wrinkle. Both are coming from playoff teams so some of their production might vary. Klingberg might fit in better with coach Eakins' style of play on the offensive zone with pinching D given the green light and have a forward cover the defensive spot.

Kulikov seems to adapt well to a pinching D during pre-season. There are lots of offensive positives from these two. I hope Drysdale improves much more so Kulikov doesn't have to play babysitter 2.0. The late addition of Kulikov was a significant get for the team defensively. Kudos to Verbeek for that trade.

I think it may take some time for our forwards, PP unit, and PK unit to develop some chemistry. I'm still leery about our ability to PK, but I feel a lot better with Klingberg as our PP1 QB.

Robertson qualifying offer will be 9.3M, and the Stars keep him RFA at the end, because he will be 22 days short of being an UFA. I believe he could just sign a 1 year deal and dip though if he wanted to. Dallas should have signed him long term with that QO.

I think it's decent timing for the Stars because a few contracts will coming off the books around that time, so they could presumably afford that QO for Robertson. They also don't have much room to maneuver right now with the twin albatrosses on the books. Not to say they shouldn't try to save money, but they aren't in a crazy bind.

Is it really? Doesn’t that take him straight to UFA. I think Robertson is loving it
Yeah I agree here, he might not go straight to UFA but there is a high chance he just takes the one-year QO of 9,3M and goes to UFA after that. IF the negotiations don’t go like he wishes. Jason has set himself up for anything he wants to do.

Dallas did what they could I guess though.

Worth noting because we will likely have to add 1 or 2 RHD at some point before next season, whether it’s via trade or free agency.

Bummer, either Kovacevic and Valimaki would have been an upgrade over Mahura and Beaulieau. I guess Verbeek wants to have Gibson waive his NTC this season.

I don’t have faith that PV would place a claim even with if we had the top priority.

More like, "I have faith in Verbeek continuing his rebuilding process."

RHD's in AHL
Andersson (two-way)
Helleson (defensive d, DFD)

RHD prospects
Nickl (2019, DFD)
Francis (2019, DFD... eta is delayed a few year due to battling Leukemia)
Moore (2020, two-way)
Warren (2022, DFD)
Luneau (2022, OFD)

LHD prospects who play RD
LaCombe (2019, two way)
Zellweger (2021, OFD)

We can find out about LaCombe (and Thrun) in April. For 2023-24, we're going to be seeing Zellweger.

For true LHD and 2023-24 going pro, we should be seeing Hinds and Minty.

From the most recent batch, I'd be cool with claiming any of Friedman, Clague, Valimaki, Kaut, Bowers, Anderson, or Daccord (if Gibson is hurt)
