I still got high hopes for Foote, so I voted for him, even though I think I could've gone with any of Okhotiuk, Zetterlund, Casey, or Thompson in this spot. Add Case McCarthy

I think the way it's run currently is fine. For instance, if we counted Bahl, would we count Mercer? or maybe Boqvist would be a closer one. Either way, the only reason it's an issue this season is because of the juxtaposition of Zetterlund being older and more experienced than a lot of guys we don't consider prospects anymore, but he's on the list and Bahl isn't. Most years you won't have that issue.

Mercer and Boqvist don't appear to be remotely comparable to Bahl's situation.

Mercer played 82 games in the NHL last season. Boqvist has played 119 games with NJ over the past 3 seasons compared to 34 in the AHL.

Bahl has played 24 NHL games the past two seasons and only missed the cut because he played in 7 games in '20-'21 instead of 5. Even with last year's 17 games, he still played 78% of the season in the AHL and he's probably a long-shot to make the opening night roster at this point whereas Mercer and Boqvist are locks.

Big boy is still a prospect. Mercer and Boqvist clearly are not.

I got it! Next year we have a poll to determine who's in the polls!

Yeah Casey being underrated. I had him above Holtz, which may be overzealous but his potential is pretty damn high. He looks like he has a top pairing skillset, save for his size.

It's not the expectation that 2nd round picks jump straight into your top 5 prospects and the fact that they did for so long is a testament to how shallow our pool was. Casey is a nice prospect, but If he comes in around 8-10 I think that's properly rated when you're comparing him to a pool that includes 5 former 1st round picks and some other more established players that were drafted in a similar position.

Voted Zetterlund. Daws, Casey, and Okhotiuk are in consideration for #7.

I am shocked Muhkamadullin was voted as high as he was. I value Okhotiuk over him every damn day of the week.

If you play 6 games twice, you're not a rookie anymore. He played 7 in 20-21 and 17 last year.

I hate the Calder rules. They’re just weirdly arbitrary to me (the 6 games part.)

Check out Michael Bunting the 26 year old Calder finalist’s past AHL & NHL games:
2015-16 (20) 63 AHL GP (& 7 ECHL GP)
2016-17 (21) 67 AHL GP
2017-18 (22) 67 AHL GP
2018-19 (23) 52 AHL GP + 5 NHL GP
2019-20 (24) 58 AHL GP
2020-21 (25) 16 AHL GP + 21 NHL GP
2021-22 (26) 79 NHL GP in a totally NHL rookie season

Vs.
Kevin Bahl
2020-21 21 (20) AHL GP & 7 NHL GP
2021-22 54 (21) AHL GP & 17 NHL GP
2022-23 Clearly we can assume he’s an NHLer and not a rookie.

I personally would prefer using a bigger game played limit for skaters which suggests they’re roster player (40-50 games maybe?). Is that better? Who knows.

It’s come up before, like when people noticed Boqvist wasn’t there at some point in 2020. He played 35 NHL games in 2019-20. (Though I can see the logic of the 25 game limit at least, I would just make it longer.)

But this always comes up after they started, when it’s too late. I always remember all this around now myself lol.

And @Nubmer6 does all the work, and has for years now, so he obviously makes the rules.

I think @My3Sons ran it before me. Don't remember what rules he had though. I thought rookie eligibility was a reasonable line to draw

Could make a case for almost any player but was split between Okhotyuk and Zetterlund since both showed out really well in their debuts. Went with Okhotyuk since I was a tad more impressed with his play but I think both of them are going to surprise and work their way up the lineup over the coming years.

Oh wait. Maybe it was @Zippy316 . Sorry. Old... Bad memory.
Yeah I ran it for a few years but didn’t have the time to keep up with it after a while. Someone was doing it before me and started to slack off too before I took over.

I used hockeysfuture prospect eligibility for a while when that was a thing. Then I forgot what their requirements were and shifted to NHL rookie requirements. But we also included some players who technically aged out of that just for the sake of debate, kinda like where Bahl is today.

Usually I kinda floated it in a thread and got feedback. The consensus always seemed to be that if they were seen as an NHL regular, exclude them. If they weren’t, just keep them in the poll.
