Nice piece on Frank Nazar, who is being sorely under-ranked by the consensus. With the US-NTDP centers, I have him about even with Logan Cooley, but @Guadana has Nazar higher than Cooley.

yeah, Cooley isn`t so cool.

I love Cooley's floor. I think the mix of his speed, pace, intelligence and compete level will see him be, at the very least, an excellent middle six center at the NHL level. But as far as the upside goes, I don't see his being as high as some of the other US-NTDP players, notably Nazar.

As I've said in my mock draft, I think Cooley has a very high chance of falling out of the top 3, and I think he'd be a very good pick at #4 or #5. But conversely, I also think the people who thought he had a chance to go #1 or #2 overall were smoking some really potent stuff.

hey everyone, wanted to tag along with STI and share my final rankings as well. went for a Top 100 with 10 HMs this year, which is a new record for me. lotta fun going over these players given how much variability and uncertainty there's been. it really is uncanny how so many of the preseason favorites for this draft struggled whereas a number of lesser appreciated targets took massive steps forward, creating a total mush lol. big thanks to all the great minds here discussing these players. fun to see our agreements/disagreements, and also pick up on some names i might not have been focusing on.

rather than rewrite my thoughts here, i figured id also share a couple of twitter ramblings i had regarding our options at #2 as well as some of my favorite prospects this year. might help give some context to how i ranked some players

thanks again for all the great discussion this year, im more than happy to go through my thought process on anything as we eagerly await the big day

Who wouldn't want a pirate on their team
Barabosha is as underrated as any defender in the 2022 class. He's a crushing hitter and ace shot-blocker who skates very well and defends expertly. He's also a plus player with the puck and shoots well. I'd say he has the upside of a second-pairing, all-situations shut-down physical defender at the NHL level. I'm extremely high on this kid. If the Devils drafted him, he would immediately shoot up to #1 on the RD depth chart for the prospect pool.

Did you post your 2022 top 10 awesome name list yet?
Oooh, great idea. Ivan Ivan Ivan would have to be on top.

I took a crack at this.

What does it take to make this list? Well just being foreign doesn’t make a name wacky and fun but it can happen.

Other than that, names that sound like cool D&D or Star Wars characters are highly rated. Names that sound like fictional characters from other sources go after that. Cool Italian names often make the list. Or just names that have some oomph or pizazz.

Finally got around to watching some Owen Beck and I have to say he's instantly become one of my favorite players to watch in this class. Smart, skilled and ultra competitive player that has few weaknesses and so many strengths. Definitely a player that would be on my short list at #37.

I was bored so I did a sim draft with that site @StevenToddIves mentioned. And before anyone kills me, Slaf was picked #1 lol.

2. Shane Wright
37. Noah Warren
70. Christian Kyrou
102. Michael Fisher
110. Dmitri Buchelnikov
126. Logan Morrison
141. Maxim Barbashev
166. Ivan Zhigalov
198. David Spacek

I don't think is very realistic at all, but it was fun. Also, I'd like a grade for this, but I think it'd be hard to do that without knowing what the entire draft board looked like, which I'm not sure how to show (and I think it's too late). There were not really great options at 37 tbh.

Thanks! Really appreciate the effort to go all the way to #120.

From the top I'd flip Cooley and Jiricek. And I think Lekkerimäki, Geekie and Howard should be higher. The more I've thought about it the more I think Lekkerimäki will be a great, potentially a star player. I really love the Geekie brothers, big very skilled forwards, I'm still expecting Morgan to break through and become a 30 goal close to ppg forward. Also I know you like Howard too, but any particular reason you view him as the "weakest" of the "big 5" usdp players?
Im sorry but morgan geekie will be lucky to crack 15 goals let alone 30. He is timid with zero compete. Hopefully the brother is better than him

No need to apologize, I'm not really that invested in him :)
You're probably right, this past season was a huge disappointment for him and the whole Kraken team. I just think he has enormous potential. He had a great junior career and has looked excellent in the AHL. I was certain he'd be at least 0.5ppg in his first full NHL season. The whole team was a mess though and it's not like he's getting top minutes or quality linemates. I still think he'll breakout, but I understand how it might seem irrational.
