From what Sweeney said in his presser, a Foligno buyout doesn't look likely. Maybe that is the right call for forward planning, but it sure looks like that team we have is the team we are going forward with. Perhaps Reilly gets moved (assuming his rehab goes as expected) and Zboril (also assuming he is able to be back 100%) takes that lineup spot, but it's hard to see the Bruins doing much else with such limited cap space.

Bergeron is going to eat a chunk of it, even on a team friendly bonus-laden deal. Moving Reilly would add back enough to *maybe* sign a UFA, but you do really have to wonder if Sweeney/Neely feel like changes are all that necessary. After all, they are getting a new coach that should solve all the perceived problems, right?

Simple....Trade one or more or all of Debrusk, Gyz, Carlo, Ullmark, Reilly, and buy-out Foligno.

Didn't realize Foligno only has a $2.8m salary after the start of the new season. He's got a $1m signing bonus coming up once the league flips the calendar.

They might actually be able to pawn him off without being bled dry.

I'd love to get a million dollar signing bonus for being poor at my job. I need to get a new agent. . .

If Boston wanted to get back into the 1st round I'm wondering if ARZ could be a team to target. As of right now ARZ has 3 first round picks (#3, #27 & #32). Buffalo is another team with 3 first round picks (#9, #16 & #28) that maybe willing to move a 1st.

Looking at the Group 6 UFA list no one really jumped out at me, but a few names that I thought maybe could be a low risk type move:

Noah Juulsen - Already has been on 3 teams (MTL, FLA, VAN) with just 53 NHL games played. Former 1st rounder with decent size (6'2/200lb), has had injury problems, but scouting reports say he's a good skater, can move the puck and willing to block shots. Boston doesn't have much in the form of RHD depth

Austin Strand - Another RHD whose been with the LAK since singing as an UDFA. Good size at 6'3/215lb and plays a more stay at home defensive game but showed some offensive ability in the WHL when he put up 64pts in 69gp

Dakota Joshua - C/LW who played at OSU. Doesn't sound like there is much offense to his game, but scouting reports say he has a decent two-way game, competes and uses his size (6'2/200lb) to win battles along the boards. In his 42 games in the NHL he's managed 9pts while being 55% in the dot.

None of these guys are really going to get anyone excited, but you never know when something can click. You look at a guy like Carter Verhaeghe who wasn't even QO'd by Tampa Bay. He goes on to sign with Florida and puts up 42G/49A in 121gp, which is good for a 60pt pace over 82 games. Now I'm not saying any of these guys will follow that path, but they're low risk signing like Verhaeghe was. If it doesn't work out you can waive them.

Only team that will want foligno is a team looking to reach the salary cap floor and they’ll want some form of compensation for taking him. Might not be much but it will be something.

I don't see Bergeron taking a bonus-laden deal. The bruins need him more than he needs the Bruins. Could be wrong but I see Bergy with a one year 6-6.5 mil deal.

If that is case, then as things stands that doesn't look it will happen. Sweeney will have to unload players, which he hasn't done a whole lot of (especially useful ones) and a Foligno buyout would almost assuredly have to happen. We'll have to see, I guess.

I'd be so down for Malkin if Krejci is out. It would take some work to get the cap done but that would be a great team.
Malkin = Too old. Too much $$$ ...No thanks
Yep. I don't see it happening he's coming off of 9.5 per and will more than likely come in around 8 mil per or more. Someone will pay it but I sure hope its not the Bruins and if they do make moves to clear cap space to bring help in, I sure hope its for someone 8-12 years the younger.

I'd take Malkin for 3 years at 8m in a heartbeat.

I love Bergy, he's my favorite player. I also love Krejci, who a lot of people are hoping comes back.

How on earth do you say malkin is too old and too much $$$ when :
a) He's younger than Bergy and Krejci
b) zero idea what he's actually asking for

As I see it, Sweeney has 3 options...

1) Sign Bergeron to a bonus-laden contract and call it a day (pushing the cap penalty to next year).

2) Move out players that are expendable; Reilly, Nosek, Smith... and use that moderate cap space to sign some mid-level UFA's to change the complexion of the team and absorb some of Bergeron's contract.

3) Move out some high value players like Carlo and DeBrusk, and use that larger cap space to sign some bigger UFA names to address some bigger holes (Kadri, Manson).
