I think a smart play for this year is to hold a decent amount of cap space for unforeseen acquisitions. Let’s not handcuff ourselves to only what we can fit in a cap in / cap out scenario.
Yes. Keep churning that cycle of unwanted player turned into extra draft capital.

So I don't know if this is directly Army's words or JR interpreting Army's word but here's a line from the most recent article that I found interesting. "If you’re upset by that, Armstrong has been pretty clear that the club has entered a retool that could mean multiple years before it’s a Stanley Cup contender again. The Blues want to be as competitive as possible but keep the focus on the future."

Hasn’t this been obvious for awhile?

It seems that Krug doesn't have a single defender on this forum. Armstrong may waive him.

How did we miss so badly with this guy? He was a known guy, we saw him in Boston in the finals, etc.

By the way, when we wanted Weight to agree to a trade, and he didn't want to, the team threatened him with not dressing him for games, keeping him in the press box. Weight was mad about it, but he waived.

I like him. He just needs to be on the 3rd pairing and PP specialist. He’s also about 2m over paid for his role.

Agreed. He was bad last year but think he was playing hurt much of year. He struggles in own zone but is great on pp and strong in transition. he can help a team, including ours, when healthy and in appropriate role.

to add to it, he was pretty good at his role the year before, he has short comings but I think if he is healthy he will be more like his first year and less like last year

Krug the player is fine. Krug the contract is brutal. He’s better than Tucker, for instance, but not 5.5M/year better. And Tucker is still young and showed some decent offensive chops in the O. I’d love to see him get 15-18 minutes a night every night and see how he grows rather than in and out of the lineup all of the time to make way for Krug and/or Scandella. They’re better right now, but for how much longer? We’re not a contender either way, I’d so much rather see what we have in the youth.

I don’t think Tucker and Krug are either/or. Peru and Krug may well be. Tucker I think is fighting with Scandella and Borts for minutes.

While I extremely favor defensemen who are good without the puck, Krug is an increasingly good asset on a team that controls the puck more. I don't think the Blues are set up to do that particularly well, but I look forward to being proven wrong by the new coaches.
