Whether Giroux or someone else, Avs need to get a true top six forward. These others being mentioned are good but I don't think it's good enough.

Come on MacFarland! He's the "new" GM right?

Giroux isn't a make or break player needed for a cup. He would be helpful, but this team can win a cup without him.

LeBrun said the Avs will "put their best foot forward" for Giroux, and then went on to say that the Avs have "managed the cap" to be able to make a run at Giroux. That's actually quite interesting given the moves the Avs have made...

The Manson and Sturm trades leave the Avs with almost exactly $3m in deadline capspace which wouldn't be enough to cover Giroux at 50% ($4.1375m). If you add NAK ($1.075m) to that though you're up to $4.075m, which is just $62.5k shy of covering all of Giroux's caphit.

That being the case if Sakic actually is intending to make a run at Giroux then perhaps it would be possible to squeeze out another $62.5k with a paper transaction of some sort to allow them to keep JTC and only have to lose NAK. 2023 1st + Barron + NAK would probably get it done if he wants to do that.

@Richard88 Further to your idea in the last thread about a 1st being too much for Copp as a rental. Instead of a prospect, what about something like:

1st + Bowers/Kaut

for

Copp + 2nd

That’s a very expensive price, but it was a guaranteed Cup, then yea of course. But there’s no guarantees in this business.

That offer seems much higher than what I think FLA will end up paying in Tippett + 2nd though. Both in the pick and the fact Barron >>> Tippett.

I'm more interested in them getting a legit center. That would address far bigger needs, both short and long-term.

Unless Fletcher is playing an unbelievable game of sleight of hand/poker to get more concessions, it sounds like G to FLA is a done deal. On to the next.
