With the 2019 draft and development camp done and finished, what do you think the Caps prospect rankings should be this year? Part of an ongoing series.

Admittedly, I'm not familiar with a lot of them, so it'll be interesting to read what you guys think.

I took this initial list from another site, so feel free to request an add of another prospect!

The requirement is U25, and less than 25 NHL games played.

Note: I'll start the next prospect ranking thread the next day if the polling isn't close. If two or more prospects are within 10 votes of each other, I'll leave that thread out for the additional day

I was torn between MF and VV and CM. I think MF is more ready and while CM was a 1st rounder, MF has accomplished a lot already to put him well above his draft status. VV also has eclipsed his draft position, IMO, but not as far (or as fast) as MF.

So— MF it is.

Starts to get tougher, I went McMichael based on everything I have read about how developed his game is, even at his age.

I see Fehervary becoming at least a modern shutdown defenseman with the amazing skating and enough two-way ability to hang with a top pairing guy. I think his offensive skills are pretty raw still, so it will be interesting to see how that develops. I actually think he has a bit of offensive upside, but it’s going to take awhile for that piece of his game to fully develop. I hope the organization is conscientious and committed in growing that part of his game as well.

I think he clearly has the ability to be a dominant, shut down and elite PK defenseman though. He seems very focused, hard working, consistent, and like a soft spoken leader. He is also extremely strong and athletic and put up a lot of very strong scores at the combine.

Tough one, but Fehervary looked to have the raw skill and looked good at rookie camp. A little seasoning and he could be special

Perhaps a similar mould to Tampa’s Eric Cernak, perhaps, who surprised most people with his ability to perform in a shutdown role with a top D (Ryan McDonagh) while still a rookie? I’m not saying he’ll have the same success as quickly, necessarily, but perhaps a similar style?

Wow this one is really close.

It really should be tied right now at 20 for Fehervary and 20 for McMichael because Satan should count as 2 votes

For me the question with Fehervary is offensive upside. How much is there? He's likely the safer pick compared to McMichael but McMichael possesses strong goal-scoring upside and that's rare. Fehervary has fared well playing in the WJCs and well enough in the WC and generally is very mature for his age but I'm not sure how much offense he'll be adding to his game. Is he just really mature or will he also continue to progress? Cernak is bigger and more physical so the comparison doesn't work too well. I think he's more of a Sekera or McDonagh type positional defenseman. His upside and whether he'd surpass Alexeyev largely needs to revolve around dictating offensively because Alexeyev's frame gives him a bit of an edge defensively (assuming durability isn't an issue). Alexeyev has also shown a bit more flashes offensively with his wrister and PP work. If Fehervary had more routine flashes of offense I'd more readily buy into him being a serious consideration at the top of the list. As-is, though, it's an open question. I would hope that both AA & MF work toward dictating in all facets with Hershey and not just being steady defensively. Being able to pounce when opportunities are there will go a long way toward them becoming dominant at that level and truly high upside two-way LD prospects overall.

Lots of absurdities in here. More hall of famers than top-9 forwards. Johansen has already surpassed your projection, so no, you did not "call" anything a year ago. Vancek has already surpassed your projection. Colby Williams has already surpassed your projection. Malenstyn likely hits your projection this year, at age 21. Kody Clark likely surpasses your projection this year.

Close vote. Basically a tie between MF and CM. Which is about right.

Hmm... If the poll actually comes down to a tie when it closes, it might actually come down to the board moderators karaoke sing-off lightening round after all.
