If Sale can give us 7 shutout innings then turn it over to Kelly and Kimbrel, I'd call that a win

Sale pulled after 6 at only 92 pitches. Well, he probably could've given us another inning, but it's opening day and he had a little rust here and there anyway, so probably for the best to rest him up.

Something Farrell did way too much during his tenure was trying too hard to squeeze innings out of the starters, so that our middle relievers were never coming in to a clean inning. It makes a massive difference for guys like Barnes and Hembree to enter with the bases empty rather than having critical runs in scoring position.

Sale stays around 6 innings and/or 110 pitches - the way it is and he needs to understand it

Guys seeing him third at bat I thought I read jumped up in average and harder contact

After 5th inning it should be inning by inning based on pitch count

He's a tremendous 7th inning guy and a passable 8th inning guy until Thornberg comes back. Big strikeout numbers, low WHIP. That was a bad performance today but the ump squeezed him pretty bad. He's not a stiff by any means, but needs to be better than that.

Joe Kelly’s numbers look so great because he just lets in everyone else’s base runners
