Kind of startling how much Melker Karlsson's game has changed the past few years. He was a really good forechecker in 2016...never forget it was his work on the boards that led to the Donskoi OT goal in game 3. He just doesn't do that anymore...I constantly see him peeling away to avoid physical contact.

If we don't have Kane tonight consider me deeply concerned. We should know in the next few hours I'd imagine.

Hopefully we can get an updated timetable on Karlsson's injury too.

Kane is on the ice this morning.
Gotta assume Haley is the odd man out if Kane is in. Kinda sucks for Hales since Florida is the team that waived him.

Hey gang. Jerk coming in peace, working on a trade value project. How would you all rank the Sharks players by trade value (the top 7-10 or so)? Think of it this way, pick two guys and say "if I could only have one of these two guys, who would I take?" Start at the bottom and go up the list like that.

Age, contract and performance all count. No-movement clauses, value to the franchise, and "untouchability" don't. (For free agents, we have a pretty good idea what these guys will get. Please slot them in where they will be once they sign, even if it's not with San Jose.)

I'd probably rank your guys like this, but please let me know where I'm wrong and who I forgot. I'm trying to keep this to NHL players, so avoid guys with fewer than 40 games in the league. Thanks!

Timo Meier, 22, $894k, 2019

Tomas Hertl, 25, $5.625m, 2022
Brent Burns, 34, $8m, 2025
Logan Couture, 29, $8m, 2027
Evander Kane, 27, $7m, 2025
Erik Karlsson, 28, $6.5m, 2019

Martin Jones, 29, $5.75m, 2024
Gustav Nyquist, 29, $3.325m, 2019
Joonas Donskoi, 26, $1.9m, 2019
Joe Pavelski, 34, $6m, 2019
Kevin Labanc, 23, $718k, 2019
Marc-Edouard Vlasic, 31, $7m, 2026

He’s back tomorrow. Welp, two things. Hopefully he’s ok and the fans give him a huge standing ovation. Secondly, we finally figure out who is the odd man out between Donskoi and Haley.....I can’t believe I have to type that and it’s a serious question.

After last night Donskoi should be sat for a while and Radil should come in for Haley but we all know that won't happen.

Hey guys. I think Donskoi would be a good target for us this summer (stat watching).

Can someone please give me a rundown on how he plays and what he'll be looking for in a contract?

Hey guys. I think Donskoi would be a good target for us this summer (stat watching).

Can someone please give me a rundown on how he plays and what he'll be looking for in a contract?

He’s an underrated shifty 2nd line playmaking winger who scores just under 0.5 points per game with almost all of his points coming at 5-on-5. He’s a very responsible 3-zone player who consistently posts strong on-ice metrics in terms of shots, goals, and chances.

The knock on him is that he’s injury prone, streaky, and isn’t all that physically strong. He also plays with a very favorable set of linemates that almost every other 2nd line playmaking winger in the NHL would dream of. His 3 most common forward linemates are Kane, Hertl, and Pavelski and his 2 most common defense linemates are Burns and Dillon.

I don’t think Donskoi is a fit for the Oilers’ top-6. By my eye, that team desperately needs a 1st line forechecker to play with McDavid and Draisaitl, and a 2nd line sniper to play with RNH. As mentioned above, Donskoi doesn’t have the physical strength to play the role of forechecking F1, and with 0 goals in his last 25 games and a career high of 14, he doesn’t have the shooting talent to play the role of the sniping F3. He could certainly help solidify their 3rd line if they chose to use him there, but they’ve got more pressing needs that he doesn’t fit IMO.

I suspect he will get around $4-5M over 4-5 years and he will be worth every penny.

It always amazes me that someone can take a puck right dead center between the eyes and still not go off for the concussion protocal.

Heard on HC12 from Burke that GMs expect 70-72 games played at full effort from competing teams (meaning they accept 10 or so games where the team is tired or having an off night).
Makes me think how many games this year the team has "taken off"

This is exactly what I’ve been thinking. Pretty sure that Florida game was a throw away game. I didn’t catch the Preds so no comment.
