Ramstein Germany
While yes he was an easy target, he also did things that brought it on himself, like not show up for a week or so, there were games where it looked like he was board and didn’t want to be out there.

Jack Johnson is such a weird player.

Every single fan thinks to seem he sucks but hockey media thinks GMs all want him.

LOL a Pen fan in the trade thread thought it would be Sheary for Ristolainen. That’s like asking them if they’d throw in Eichel and Dahlin for a bag of signed Crosby pucks. They have zero concept of the actual value of their own players.

People on this board thought Orpik had positive value. We all overrate our own players. But yeah that guy was delusional.

Orpik did have positive value. I don't think for a second Grubauer was actually valued as worth a first rounder by anyone. He was likely valued, IMO, at bit less than Talbot.

I can see it now: "If he had positive value, the Avs wouldn't have bought him out." The Avs had basically a full roster and were in danger of not reaching the Cap floor. Buying out Orpik is a way of adding to their cap floor without using a roster spot.

Sakic also tried and failed to trade Orpik.

All the evidence points to Orpik having negative value.

Friedman also says Orpik had negative value.

Where does it say they tried and failed to trade Orpik? A "preferred spot" doesn't mean "anywhere in the league". Apparently Carolina's offer was better than Colorado's, and they too were willing to include Orpik.

Once again, you do your damnedest to try to disparage guys that were on the Caps.

Ristolainen isn't good.

Are you gonna ignore the tweet where Friedman says Colorado gave up less in return for taking Orpik?

Here's Khurshudyan's take on the trade:
Capitals trade Philipp Grubauer, Brooks Orpik to Colorado Avalanche for second-round pick

Grubauer was the incentive for the Avalanche to take Orpik’s contract without Washington retaining any salary
