Schilkey and Cockerill are the two most intriguing invites this year.

Schilkey is playing for a contract, good offensive player for the Bucknuts the past few years.

Cockerill has been the best dman for Northeastern the past 2 years and has a nice offensive game. The NU fan in me wants to see him go back for his senior year, that Canes fan in me worries we might get Kruged again.

Camp invite Schilkey is kinda intriguing. 27 goals in 35 games in the NCAA is a lotttt. He is 23 tho.

I just read that #88 is Necas favourite. I'm not sure but i can't remember anyone wear that for Hurricanes.

Nope. No Hurricane or Whaler roster player has ever worn #88. You've got Teravainen as the only #86 and Darren Turcotte as the only #89 and that's about it.

Was hoping for some more interesting undrafted invites, not a bunch of 23 year old.

The rest of the roster is exciting though. Good group of prospects we've assembled.

Goddamnit, Necas, pick a Canes number, not Kane's number.

What do you think this year looks like for Gauthier and Roy? Do they both start in the minors this year or is there a realistic shot for either to make the big club at some point this year? I remember them both having great camps last season. They have to be close...right?

You remember Roy having a great camp last year? Didn't he miss a large chunk of it due to a stomach bug or something? And wasn't it the second year in a row that he missed some or all of camp? I was just about to make a joke about what ailment keeps him out this year, but with Saarela out, again, I can't bring myself to do it.

Could be I mixed up his team Canada camp with Hurricanes camp. :help::nod:

Anyway, both have signed ELCs so do they both end up in the AHL or do either have a realistic shot at time on the big club?

I'd say 95% chance they both start in Charlotte but they'll be high on the list of potential call ups depending on who gets injured and how the rest of the roster shakes out

Roy strikes me as the guy that could surprise. With his last two seasons in the QMJHL and a pretty great WJC he's got to be coming in with a ton of confidence.

I'd love for him to blow the doors off and make the team...but I just don't see it. I am still skeptical he can keep up at NHL speed.

They said the same thing about Rask coming in, but he was only 6-1, 6-2 and doesn't have the huge reach that Roy does to make up for it. I don't think Roy can be a big scorer for a few years but he does play a physical which sets him up to play on the 4th line and maybe get some PP shifts as a net-front guy.
