Thanks, Leslie. Great to have you back writing - I don't always agree with your thoughts and analysis, but at least you provide thoughtful thoughts and analytic analysis, which is a lot more than I can say for the guys who write for our local papers.

For example, great point about the perceived lack of depth in the draft being a factor in not being able to trade into the 1st/2nd round. Excellent point I, for one, hadn't considered.

Thanks Leslie for this great write up. I think the Rangers did a great job with what they had. For an organization that lacks any high end talent in the prospect pool, I think the selection of Day in the 3rd round was perfect.

Nice read, Leslie. Always appreciate your honest, and somewhat sobering take on these kids. I also echo BRF's sentiments about your comments on the strength of the draft making it difficult to move up or down on draft day. Never really considered that. Very insightful.

I think the bottom pairing potential for Tarmo Reunane is far too low. Some thought of him as a first round talent last summer as he had similar production at the same age and league as 5th overall Olli Juolevi. Tarmo might be 6 month behind in development at this point due to his injury but I'm not sure he gets drafted at all if his potential is bottom 6 or pp specialist.

Fair enough. I only saw video of him; no live views. Hope to get live view this year and I will give you an update on what I think. But from what I saw, I question how solid he will be in his own end.

Good read Leslie. Liked the insight. Only thing I might disagree with is Reunanen only having Bottom pair potential. Great job though!

Thanks Leslie,

at the risk of overstepping bounds by speaking for others here, I'm sure we are all happy to have benefit of your contributions whenever you can make them available.

-------

Side note, how close is Day to being another Paul Coffey?
Esp if we can pair him with someone defensively solid?

thanks.

Thank you all for your kind comments.

I do not think of Day as a Paul Coffey. Day's upside is probably a number three two-way guy.

Ty Ronning was a good pick. Any time you can get a point per game (almost) producer in round 7, you grab him. That his dad can teach him what it takes to be an NHL player is an added bonus.

Day is a good risk to take too. Once you get out of the first 2 rounds, go for guys who have NHL talent, but lack other things like size, health or brain. Brain sometimes comes with age, size can be overcome, health issues can go away, but if you don't have the skills to play in the NHL, you won't play in the NHL despite your big size and great attitude.

While I guess anything is possible. Are you serious with Paul Coffey question? :help:

I think she was referring to the comment Goride Clark made, something to the tune that Day "skates like Paul Coffey"

I guess I forgot that comment. But there's a difference between "skates like Paul Coffey" and bern's question about how far he was from being Paul Coffey as a player.
