New Lottery Rules for 2016
NHL announces changes to Draft Lottery format
Under phase-in plan, odds will be adjusted to reflect increasing competitive balance in 2015; Lottery will be expanded to determine first three selections in 2016

2016 NHL Draft Lottery

Beginning in 2016, the Draft Lottery will be utilized to assign the top three drafting slots in the NHL Draft, an expansion over previous years when the Draft Lottery was used to determine the winner of the first overall selection only.

Three draws will be held: the 1st Lottery draw will determine the Club selecting first overall, the 2nd Lottery draw will determine the Club selecting second overall and the 3rd Lottery draw will determine the club selecting third overall.

As a result of this change, the team earning the fewest points during the regular season will no longer be guaranteed, at worst, the second overall pick. That club could fall as low as fourth overall.

I mean, if you roll Nylander/Brown/Kadri/Gauthier down the middle, you have such a great mix of talent in the middle of the ice.

Only a couple things that concern me

Is Nylander a #1 C? If yes okay...

L.Brown - definitely welcome size in the top 6, especially in the middle

I don't see Kadri as a 3C

Gauthier 4C - pretty safe.

We have a couple of dark horses that could be our 3C in the future - Toninato and Joshua (have size, skill etc, does it translate to the NHL?...eh probably not)

Bozak seems to be well liked...do we keep him (his game probably fits in more with a typical 3C then Kadri's)

Could we move Kadri and other assets to land a 2nd pairing right handed defenseman?

Naz should return a good 1st and a prospect. Love his game this year, but for the right price, I would be okay if we part with him.

I think if we stop looking at traditional roles, the 1st 3 lines SHOULD be competent in the offensive zone, which is why I have no problem playing him on line 3, or line 2, and letting Brown come along at his own pace.

Fair enough.

Do you think Nylander has 1st line centre upside though? I always felt he would be a really high end #2 centre but his production to date has been pretty top notch which makes me unsure on how to project him.

This is why it is important to keep willie with the marlies and develop him into a #1 center that is defensively responsible. Make all the mistake down with the marlies and come up to the leafs!

cant we switch brown and kadri? imo kadri has more offensive upside and i dont think that he has shown everything he has to show. i think he is in the same boat as rielly in that babs is trying to teach them proper hockey. he knows there is offense there.

brown has size but how much offense is actually there. imo he is somewhere beteeen goat and kadri. size is nice if given a choice but its not like kadri has an issue at his size. nylander is around kadris size and probably even more muscle when things are said and done.

Brown does not even average a point per game in the OHL, I think the GOAT has a higher PPG average .... i pass on logan brown in the first round.

Logan Brown would be a Pittsburgh pick type candidate.

I would like to get a d-man with that pick, Logan maybe available with our first 2nd round pick. I still want to take a goalie in the 2nd or 3rd round also.

I have a hard time believing he makes it to the 2nd round, but we've seen fallers in the past. He's a steal in rd.2

I like Logan Brown however I think Clayton Keller is someone we should consider if there is a pens pick too. I don't know why people can't think Brown isn't a good pick, he's a hard working dude. Unless we follow the skill motto and go for a guy like debrincat who's still impressing me.

A player who kind of reminds me of JVR is Bellows but with a bit more aggression IMO.

I see Larkin in Bellows. They have about similar projection and development curve right up until the draft - he's a guy that I'd like to get with a later first round pick, if he's still there.

Chychrun is the guy I want the most, if we're not counting Matthews. Tkachuk would be also a great choice, if Chychrun is not available at our pick. Not a fan of picking up either one of the finns, since I want them to succeed in their hockey careers.

I'd definitely be looking at Jake Bean. Seems all our D prospects are LHD.

He also missed time with a suspension, WJC camp, etc.

Stat watching isn't a great way to evaluate kids.

Which WJC camp did Brown attend? I know he is a dual citizen but he didn't attend the in season Team Canada camp and I didn't think he attended Team USA either. But maybe I am wrong on that.
