Nolan's under a million salary keeps him over Clifford. And my god Purcell sucks. He looks terrified handling the puck.

Q: what is: Purcell, Gilbert, Latta and Trotman?

A: please dear God, be a law firm and not 4 subpar players
signed by the Kings in off-season 2016.

2 waiver fodder (Trotman & Latta) and 2 (Purcell & Gilbert) fringe NHLers at this point in their careers that are not better than other options. Trotman taking up space in Ontario from either Cernak or Lintuniemi alone makes me ill.

yup both Purcell & Setoguchi are garbage but i couldn't replace everyone on the roster with Mr X

regardless, ''balance scoring'' won't work with this team we have like 10 grinders on the team

so trying out Pearson Kopitar Toffoli again makes so much sense right now

why not have at least one line that can score instead of 0?

don't get it

This has to be the worst Kings team since 2007-08. Remember that lineup? At least it had some youth (sprinkled in with some aging veterans).

O'Sullivan-Kopitar-Brown
Frolov-Armstrong-Cammalleri
Calder-Handzus-Nagy
Thornton/Ivanans-Giuliano-Willsie

And a blueline that featured the likes of Blake, Visnovsky, Modry (traded), Stuart (traded), Johnson, Preissing, Dallman, Harrold and Klemm.

Can't forget the 7 different goalies we'd see that season, led by Jason LaBarbera, Ersberg, Aubin, Cloutier, Bernier, one game from Daniel Taylor and a few appearances by some rookie known as Jonathan Quick.

That team wound up to suck enough to land the #2 pick in the 2008 draft. That draft party event was probably the best thing to happen for us Kings fans at that time.

Never thought I'd long for the days of having Handzus back, he was great paired with Richardson and Simmonds. Que the Dead Flag Blues playing in the backround.

I think Purcell is an apt comparison for Nagy. I had no expectations but my god he's looked soft and terrified. I'd like to see how we look in a win before some real evaluations but yeah.

This is gonna be a fun thread to look at by season's end, get the feeling this roster is gonna get the 2012 makeover :yo:

It's hard to believe Purcell scored 41 goals and 116 points in his first 2 complete seasons after leaving the Kings, plus 17 points in 18 playoff games. Different system and teammates, but still...

Would be a perfect spot to bring up Mersch and give him some top six minutes but let's just put more grinders in the lineup

Las Vegas had the season point total at 99.5

I've never made a bet this high before.
but i put a bunch on the UNDER last week at FF
when thinking about our current line-up.

Hate betting against my team like this but
at least I'll make some $$ watching them
roll out a team with absolutely NO depth.

Smart bet. I was mocked when I said you have to see how they play in Game 1 before you evaluate this team, even told to delete my account by one HF poster. All you really had to do was look at the Lucic loss and see he wasn't replaced. That alone should tell any non-homer fan this team is sorely lacking.

You can tell which fans haven't been following this team long enough when they say stupid things like that to you.

We've been around long enough, I'd say we've earned the right to be highly critical of this team. It's not as if anything you, Herby or myself or anyone else has written has been unfair. Some people have the wrong pretense in thinking this is solely based on two games.

Apparently, it's coming from the same people who thought everything was hunky dory in 2014-15 and 2015-16, and it'll only get better in 2016-17 somehow? We're all fans, we're still here, watching the games and commenting on them. But honestly, how can one be blind to what's been going on since the team lost Mitchell, Regehr, Williams, Voynov, Richards, Brown, etc.?

What are these homers going to say if they miss the playoffs or are quickly disposed of in round one yet again? It's not like the 2010 or 2011 Kings when just reaching the playoffs was what the goal was. Acquiring guys like Richards and Carter signaled an organizational shift, as has the aforementioned losses that I listed.

Losing all of those players and the regression of others also signals yet another organizational shift. It's time to transition into a new era where the team has to at some point introduce younger, less experienced players into the lineup. I'd much rather see that than bringing in another slew of miscast players who don't fit in with this team.

Purcell as an RW and Dowd at the C had good chemistry together in the preseason, but in typical Sutter fashion, he is playing Purcell on his off-wing and benched the team's leading goal scorer in the preseason. Purcell does not look like he is giving it his all out there, which is likely while he will be benched next game.

We all know the problems....

They don't have many finishers in the Top6.
They have depth guys that rarely produce depth scoring.
They are a slow team.
They are missing a Top4 Dman.
The system they run is outdated and figured out by other teams.
The Coach doesn't know how to adapt and sticks with his veterans and grinders.
The GM is too loyal to "HIS GUYS" that he won't change.
They spent too much cap space on guys that are injured or declining.
They draft guys that fit the system more than going for the skilled talent.

Don't get me wrong! They have the guys and the talent that will challenge for a playoff spot but the cup window has all but closed. This team needs a new more open system (nothing drastic), an influx of youth and skill, a new coach, and better way of drafting. They need to adapt to what's going on in the NHL and the style of players coming through the draft.

Kempe--Kopitar--Gaborik (Seto in Gaborik is back)
Pearson--Carter--Toffoli
Mersch--Dowd--Brown
Clifford--Shore--Lewis
Nolan, Purcell

Muzzin--Doughty
Martinez--LaDue
Forbort--Gilbert
McNabb

Quick
Zatkoff

Trade-King, Greene, Andreoff for picks or young skilled guys that need a change of scenery.

Don't worry. They are just place holders while the youth have time to develop. There's no point in rushing guys. We're just going to have to earn our fan cards this year.

Actually I like where the team is and what they have coming. Still think some things could be shifted around on the back end, but it'll be exciting to see who steps up and grabs a spot.

The big issue for me as a fan looking forward is you have Vegas who will take a player from the Kings after this season. So they will be even weaker although an argument can be made that's not the case if it's McNabb, I still think it will be Brown which is a win-win.

As my alarm goes off for the Stouffers Lasagna in the oven, I will say...

Ring Ring Ring we got a winner here.

Others, read this post of RC's closely. Or don't. But don't be mad when you draw the ire of others for a condesnceding tone... just because you think your hockey IQ is the shiznit and "omg how dare this guy question me" attitude doesn't fly. Especially as new people come to the board.

Respectfully, of course :)

It's going to be a rough year. As more people are seeing it, there's bound to be some extra grumpy posts. That mixed with the guys that are in denial, or the ones that are grasping at shaking up the roster/front office may not go well together at times.

I've been trying to transition back to when I started watching hockey and didn't know WTF the playoffs were and just enjoyed the game.

Same Trolfoli, I'm just good with hockey and an awesome front office. If the club sucks, so be it. I lived through the mid-late 90's ineptitude so this ain't nothing but a thang. Some poster's anguish goes even further back than that (I'm 33).

So it goes.

Hope this board gets more and more new Kings posters to even out the "get off muh lawn" folk :D

Kings have to rid themselves of Dustin Brown somehow.

But I agree and been preaching all training camp to let Mersch, Dowd, and Kempe have a shot and find a way to rid of Shore, Brown and King.

In over 100 NHL games Nick Shore has 4 goals. I haven't noticed him in years. Why is he playing?
