Michael Boivin who AHL rights are owned by Tucson has been waived by his ECHL team. Boivin hasn't recorded a single point in 8 games with Rapid City while posting a rating of minus 8.

The Reading Royals (who were in town playing Rapid City the day he was released) have claimed Boivin off waivers. He is expected to be added to the roster today or tomorrow according the team's radio broadcast of last night's game.

Interestingly the Royals traded the rights to goaltender Adam Morrison to Rapid City for "future considerations" the day after the waiver claim. Seems odd they didn't just trade Boivin for Morrison straight up rather than the waiver claim/"futures" trade.

Re: Marco Roy for the Comets, what's unknown about it? Did he not sign an AHL contract?

I believe he is signed to a SPC however it has never been officially confirmed so I'd rather stay cautious.

As an example, Jon Landry attended Bridgeport's camp on a PTO (like any unsigned free agent) and he was later signed to an "official" PTO right before the start of the season.

According to the AHL's transaction page Bridgeport's Aaron Berisha was released from his SPC. He was playing for Missouri at the time of his recall and release.

Don't know what happened but would he be moving to the CIS?

Link: http://theahl.com/transactions

Berisha was limited to 1 point in 8 games with Missouri while posting a plus/minus rating of -10.

The San Diego Gulls announced today that the American Hockey League (AHL) club has signed left wing Jordan Samuels-Thomas to a one-year contract. Per club policy, no financial terms of the deal were disclosed.

Samuels-Thomas, 26 (5/28/90), has scored 2-0=2 points with two penalty minutes (PIM) and a +4 rating in four appearances with San Diego this season after he signed a professional tryout (PTO) on Nov. 10. The 6-4, 210-pound forward scored goals in his first two appearances with the Gulls, including one in his debut with the club on Nov. 11 vs. Manitoba and San Diego’s lone shorthanded goal of the season on Nov. 12 vs. Manitoba.

I suspect it's an SPC contract. Press was drafted 211th overall by Chicago in 2013.

Cason Hohmann who registered 9 points in 12 games with the Toronto Marlies' ECHL affiliate has been released from his SPC. This move was probably made to allow Hohmann to catch on with another AHL team as he was signed to a PTO by Charlotte right after being released by Toronto.

Jack Barre has also been released by Grand Rapids. Barre has been limited to 1 points in 2 appearances with the Toledo Walleye in the ECHL.

Newbury was likely released to make some room for Fayne who only spent a day in Bakersfield before getting called up.

B-Sens signs Akeson
The Binghamton Senators announced today that the club has signed forward Jason Akeson to an AHL contract.

Akeson, 26, returns to the B-Sens after playing in 17 games this year for the Kontinental Hockey League’s Vladivostok Admiral. The forward came to Binghamton in a seven-player trade with the Rochester Americans last season and scored 22 points (5 goals, 17 assists) in the final 21 games of the season.

Akeson has appeared in 15 NHL games with the Philadelphia Flyers and scored his only NHL goal on his first shot. In 338 AHL games throughout his career, Akeson has 94 goals and 183 assists.

Not 100% sure about this but Akeson might have had to clear waivers in order to clear waivers.[/QUOTE]

SD signs Austen Brassard
The San Diego Gulls announced today that the American Hockey League (AHL) club has signed right wing Austen Brassard to a one-year contract. Per club policy, no financial terms of the deal were disclosed.

Brassard, 23 (1/14/93), has earned 1-1=2 points with 4 penalty minutes (PIM) and a +2 rating in 7 appearances with San Diego.

Brassard registered 36 points in 75 games with Manitoba last season.

Nashville signs Adam Pardy

Unknown contracts
Binghamton : Guillaume Lépine
San Jose : Jacob Middleton
Springfield : Ryan Horvat and Stephen MacAulay
Toronto : William Wrenn
Utica : Marco Roy

According to theahl.com, Stephen MacAulay (19 2-2-4) has been released from his PTO and signed to a SPC.
http://theahl.com/transactions?team=411&season=54&page=1&resultsPerPage=50

I guess that Horvat who is among Springfield's leaders in points (tied for 4th with 10 points in 24 games) has been signed to a SPC by now.
--------------------------------------------
I recently noticed that Jeff Glass is still on the Marlies' roster. Glass currently shares the crease with Karri Ramo, Jhonas Enroth and Garret Sparks. No wonder why he's been limited to 2 games this season.
--------------------------------------------
The Cleveland Monsters have signed Marc-André Bergeron to a PTO. Bergeron is attempting an NHL comeback after playing 3 years in Switzerland.

Cleveland has also released Sheldon Brookbank from his PTO. The AHL defender of the year in 2006-2007 was limited to one point in 6 appearances.

-Cole Sanford has left the SA Rampage organization to join the University of Alberta.

I'd like to take the opportunity to thank the San Jose Barracuda and the Allen Americans for respecting and supporting my decision to return to school and pursue an education while continuing to play with the university of Alberta. Looking forward to joining the Golden Bears in the new year

The Bridgeport Sound Tigers announced today defenseman Jon Landry has agreed to terms on a one-year, American Hockey League contract through the rest of 2016-17. He initially signed a Professional Tryout (PTO) in October and has played 16 games with the Sound Tigers this season.

Landry, 33, currently ranks second on the club’s roster in scoring among defensemen. He notched eight points (one goal, seven assists) in his first 16 games and also leads all Bridgeport players with a plus-13 rating.

The Indy Fuel, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks and AHL's Rockford IceHogs announced Thursday that defenseman Robin Press has been added to their active roster after being assigned by the IceHogs earlier in the week

Chicago seems to have signed their prospect Robin Press to an AHL contract. Press recently crossed the pond due to a lack of playing time in Sweden. The 21-year old defender was the last pick of the 2013 draft and his NHL rights are owned by Chicago until June 1st.

In the span of a few hours, Tim Kennedy was signed by Rochester, claimed on waivers by Charlotte and then shipped back to Rochester.

Here is more details on the turmoil.

Kennedy’s AHL rights have been transferred to the Rochester Americans, Buffalo’s top affiliate, from the Charlotte Checkers, Sabres general manager Tim Murray announced today.

After leaving Lulea HF of the Swedish Hockey League, the Amerks signed Kennedy to an AHL contract over the weekend.

The contract, Murray said, triggered the AHL waiver process, and Kennedy was claimed by the Checkers, the Carolina Hurricanes’ affiliate.“Charlotte has since transferred his contract back to our organization,” Murray said in a statement.

“We’re are happy to have Tim join the Amerks and look forward to his contributions this season.”Kennedy, 30, compiled two goals and four points in 18 games in Sweden this season. The forward spent last season in the KHL, splitting time between a Russian club and Jokerit, a team in Helsinki, Finland.

Kennedy has played 162 NHL games, including 79 with the Sabres. He spent all of 2009-10 with the team.

the Gus Young trade was interesting, he's a pretty decent AHL defenseman so that must be some favor they called in. San Antonio also just released Matt Lashoff from PTO. I'm a bit surprised Sanford left, he was doing pretty well in the echl but it's not for everyone.
