The Nemesis
Semper Tyrannus
Just so it's in place for the game. Will be unlocked leading up to game time.
GDT NOTICE
Hey everyone.
We had kind of a, shall we say, rough ride during and after yesterday's game. Obviously the Jays losing was not the desired result and to a degree, that got the best of some of us. That said there was also some tension during and after the game about how and what was being said.
So we (the mods around here) thought it best to go over a quick refresher of the rules as this game starts:
1) Flaming: Do not personally insult other posters. That means no name-calling, insulting, demeaning, or harassing other posters. If you disagree with what someone says, criticize what they say, not who they are saying it. Example:
"That's ridiculous." <- acceptable
"You're an idiot." <- not acceptable
If you insist on flaming, you can and will receive infractions for it and may be removed from the thread if you are an ongoing issue.
2) Trolling: Do not enter the thread solely to mock, or annoy other posters, or to post things intended to rile other posters up. What's important here is that this is not meant to quash unpopular opinions or criticism. People are allowed to be critical of the team without being harassed for it.
Try to avoid arguments that paints posters or groups of posters in an inflammatory light. Making blanket statements about people, or making/promising/suggesting "I told you so" type comments is going to rub people the wrong way and start fights. Avoid generalizing about groups of fans or making broad-brush comments that might appear passive-aggressive or intended to jab at or mock sets of posters for an opinion you don't agree with.
That said, if you do insist on being critical, for your sake and everyone else's it's probably best to consider how you frame your thoughts. Provide your rationale or logic for the opinion you have. Be willing to engage in a debate with people who challenge you. Just don't simply say "this series is over" or "well, this team sucks" or something like that. Show that you're interested in participating in the discussion and not just committing a drive-by complaining.
And with that in mind, if someone is critical of the team, you can challenge the opinion given, but do not attack the poster personally. If it bothers you significantly, put the poster on your ignore list. If you think they're violating the rules, use the report post feature and let a mod deal with it. Attacking the poster only causes the issue to escalate, making more work for the mods and making it harder for everyone to read the GDT without it getting sidetracked by the latest fracas.
3) Moderator Abuse/Disclosure of Private info: If a mod deletes your post, it was for a reason. Do not repost anything that was deleted. If something disappears, it probably was deleted. Its' safe to assume that disappeared posts weren't the victim of server glitches or posting errors unless you get an error message.
If you receive a PM, warning, or infraction for a mod, or have a post deleted, do not publicly complain, quesiton, or challenge the action, or disclose/post that you were the subject of some sort of moderation. If you have an issue, PM a moderator. Mod histories are private between the mods and each individual user, and they need to stay that way.
We are writing this as a warning to everyone who participates in the Jays GDT/discussion threads so we do not have to consistently remind you. There will be low tolerance for rule-breaking going forward.
If you need clarification on anything or want to discuss the issues, you can contact BertCorbeau, King Mapes, or The Nemesis
Thanks all, and enjoy the game.
