So... Karlsson is the odds-on favorite to win the Norris by a LONG shot, and Stone seems to be a distant 3rd as far as odds are concerned?

I would have thought Stone's odds were a bit better. I'm curious a to how those betting lines are set.

They're all over Karlsson winning.

Yeah, no kidding.

It seems that - betting-wise - the shoe-ins for awards are Karlsson for the Norris, Hartley for the Adams, Price for the Vesina & Hart (and Lindsay)...

In fact, the only awards that are even "open" are the Calder, the Lady Byng, and the Selke. Possibly the Lindsay as well, I could see Ovie winning that one, if the PA decide to split the award and deny Price his trifecta.

What does 1/4 for Karlsson mean?

You get one dollar back for every $4 you bet.

For example, if you made a $20 bet on Karlsson and won, you would only get $25 back (your original $20 bet, plus an extra $5)

1/4 odds on anything are very close to being a shoe-in.

The one reason why i don't think Doughty is going to win is that for the last 20+ years, the norris trophy has gone to a player on a playoff team. Is it suddenly going to change now? Maybe.

If you want to stay true to what the Norris is really about though, the award should go to Doughty.

... and what is that?

I only ask because the term "all-around" is not really elaborated upon as far as the award is concerned, and it's phenomenally vague. Does "all-around" refer to the best two-way defenceman? Should the award go to the defenceman who best blends offensive and defensive skill? Because that might not be the better defenceman overall. Or does "all-around" refer to the best defenceman overall? Because that excludes lesser-skilled-but-slightly-more-well-rounded defencemen.

All-around in my opinions means that a defenseman is both good at providing offense and providing defense.

But i do kind of agree with you. It is a vague concept.

So you win $5 for every $2 you bet on stone?

This Johnny Gaudreau **** is just irritating.

There's literally no reason for him to win outside of HYPE! HYPE! HYPE!

Since it's the media voting on the Calder, HYPE HYPE HYPE makes them money.

The NHL really needs to find a different way to vote for these awards rather than having the media vote for them.

Only some are media (Norris, Calder).
Some are GMs (Vezina)
Some are players (Lindsay)
Some are coaches (GM of the Year I believe)

But basically they need to involve the media, to get media presence for the awards.

For the ones the media votes I just use the HF board polls. Most media members only watch a few games outside of their division and just vote on the flavour of the year.
