I think they would if a good defenseman was going the other way

Unfortunately we aren't in a position to give up a good dman since we only have two; the other three have potential but that's it and the last one is a vet who's should be a bottom pairing dman

I think they'd accept Cowen based on his perceived potential. I think the Sens would be wise to move Cowen now before the rest of the League catches on that he has the hockey sense of the average Chihuahua.

In a wild affair, France rallied from a 2-0 first-period deficit to defeat Norway 5-4 on Saturday. Stephane Da Costa scored the shootout winner.

Da Costa beat Norway's Lars Haugen with a deft backhand deke inside the netminder's right post and raised his arms to the sky in triumph. It was the team-leading fourth goal of the tournament for the Ottawa Senators veteran.

philly wont give him up

I must say that I'm happy Tippet isn't shy about playing KT7! Turris is averaging almost 3 mins/gm more then every other forward, other then Matt Read who happens to be a line mate with Turris. Think I heard it mentioned that KT7 was the only real center who can kill penalties on the team, and with 2 shorty pts in the last 2 game I guess it will stay that way.

I see that Cody Hodgson has six goals now. I still remember him from the World Juniors played in Ottawa - they gave tournament MVP to Tavares, but I really felt like Hodgson was Canada's best player. Trading Hodgson out of Vancouver for a meathead like Zack Kassian was management malpractice - Gillis deserved to be fired for that trade alone...

Why is EK not in this tournament? Did he turn down a invite or did Sweden not invite him?

Sounds like everyone has nothing but great things to say about Turris, its safe to say we got a keeper in that guy

Turris acted extremely sloppy on Swedens 2-0 goal right now. Not like him being so careless in his defensive game.

Ugh great. Another lazy defensive player. Bust. Trade him. This might actually be the beginning of the end for Turris

This trade gets a lot of misplaced hate towards Gillis, as much as I wouldn't hesitate calling him a terrible GM. He traded a centre who was lagging in his development and was stuck behind Kesler and Sedin for a first round winger who combined offensive skill and physical play. He targeted Kassian as a player who would compliment the Sedin line in an attempt to add depth to their top 6. It never really worked out as no coach would keep him with the twins for more than a few games.

However, what takes the heat off of Gillis is Hodgson and his family. Media outlets reported that Hodgson's parents actually demanded for him to be traded to a team where he would get top 6 minutes. Shortly after that he was traded. Hodgson's relationship with the Canucks had been tumultuous since his world junior success. There was some drama surrounding an offseason workout injury and how serious it was that soured their relationship. Therefore there's more to the trade than what people outside of Vancouver think.

France qualified for the quarter finals thanks to a 6-2 victory over Denmark (a first since 1995). 2 goals and I believe 1 assist by Da Costa!

This puts Canada's shootout loss to France in a slightly different light. Sure, Canada still should have won the game, but France obviously is a much improved squad. Those "middle power" hockey nations like Germany, Switzerland, France and Norway have closed the gap significantly, and if they get great goaltending and a few bounces, anything can happen in a one game setting...

Da Costa is such a tease. ;)

I hope he is able to contribute offensively next season.

Canada scrapes by Norway 3-2

We outshot them 42-16 and outplayed them badly. In a lot of ways, it was actually Canada's best game of the tournament.

Looks like the schedule maker didn't do us any favours. Finland has has a shaky round robin and dropped to fourth, so we get them in the quarter finals, while Sweden gets Belarus. We actually would have been better off letting Sweden win the pool. Same thing happened to us last year, when we won our Pool but ended up having to play Sweden in the QFs.

Now, Finland doesn't have a very strong roster with only a small handful of NHLers, but they are significantly better than Belarus, and they have Pekka Rinne. Canada absolutely has to play Scrivens and ride him the rest of the way...
