Call me crazy, but after reading this article about Josh Ho-Sang's personal feud with the hockey establishment: http://m.torontosun.com/2014/06/24/the-curious-case-of-controversial-nhl-prospect-joshua-ho-sang

... I'd actually be down with taking him at #37.

Could he turn out to be a complete gong show? Yes. But this is a kid who's already falling due to factors completely outside of hockey ability. It's a given that he has outstanding talent, and he seems like a guy who is going to do literally anything in his power to succeed. The brash comments are a little concerning but they should tone down with maturity. And we have a young, rudderless team which is developing a youthful identity. We just hired a coach who was very successful dealing with young players at the university and junior levels. As a small, non-media-intense market with opportunities for young forwards to make their mark, I think we'd actually be a really good fit for this kid if he falls out of the first round.

No way Ho-Sang drops out of the 2nd round. Someone will take him. The talent is there, but his attitude is terrible. If he's still there in the 2nd at #37, sure, why not take the gamble. Eventually, someone has to try to get through his thick skull, and there's always a chance he matures out of the "I'd be the best player in the world if my linemates didn't suck so bad" mentality. He might even get grabbed before the 1st round is over.

While I personally prefer Ritchie to Virtanen, I'd be happy with either of them, and I also like Ho-Sang a lot more after reading that article. However, I'd be happy with Goldobin in round two simply because I like how he develops in NHL 14 :D. Probably not the best reason to like him but I do like the way he plays. Also wouldn't mind trading up a bit (from the 2nd to late first) to grab Scherbak, I like how he plays

I'd love Ho-Sang in the second as well but I don't think he'll be there.

If we trade #7 and #37 to Ana for #10 and #24, we may be able to get him.

Based on your reasoning though, I just don't see why Anaheim would do that. If your supposition is that the talent doesn't drop off til after 10 and is pretty similar in the 7-10 range, then why would Anaheim want to go from 24 to 37 just to move up to 7?

Re: Ho-Sang. Remember, many on this board a couple of years ago were lambasting Skinner because of selfish play, showing too much emotion, arguing at refs, throwing "tantrums", not playing a complete game, etc.... saying he needed to "grow up".

Not saying stay away from Ho-Sang at all, but I suspect you'll get the same as what people *****ed about with Skinner (probably magnified X10) with him. You'll have to be willing to accept the good with the bad as it's unlikely he'll change anytime soon.

If he brings way more good with that bad, then it's a worthwhile investment, just be willing to accept it.

Only if they had a guy that they wanted over someone else.

I don't see much difference between people would select. Perlini, Virt, Ritchie, Nylander or Fleury would be our targets outside of Dal Colle dropping to us.

So if the Ducks had it for Nylander, and we was ok with Virt / Fleury / or whoever doesn't got 8 or 9, we would still be getting someone with the same ceiling, I would maybe extend it to 12 as the drop off, but 11 or 12 won't be as sure as 6-10.

wait... what? Oh.

Seriously though, would kill to see Ho-Sang or Demko still on the board at #37. I think I'd probably go Ho-Sang there, he's this years Shinkaruk IMO.

I hope they pick Ho-Sang and rocks a Mohawk and wears #69. And he gives the DX crotch chop every time he scores on of his 600 career goals.
