2014 Draft picks
  • 2nd round NYR
  • 3rd round NYR
  • 4th round NYR
  • 5th round Florida (for Casey Wellman)
  • 6th round NYR
We lost our 1st rounder in 2014 in the Marty St Louis trade with Tampa Bay
We lost our 2014 5th rounder to San José in the Ryan Clowe trade in 2013 with San Jose as the predetermined conditions were met
The Rangers acquired Columbus’ 2014 6th round pick along with Derick Brassard, Derek Dorsett and John Moore from Colmbus in exchange for Marian Gaborik, Blake Parlett and Steve Delisle.
The Rangers then traded Columbus’ 2014 6th round pick along with Benn Ferriero to Minnesota in exchange for Justin Falk.
We lost our 7th rounder in 2014 (conditional) to The LA Kings in the Danny Carcillo trade. Condition being that if Carcillo spends the rest of the season on the Rangers’ roster, Los Angeles gets the pick

Draft 2015
We lost our 2015 1st rounder in the Marty St Louis trade with Tampa Bay
We lost our 2015 5th rounder in the trade with Vancouver that brought us Rafael Diaz

Conditional picks 2015 - We will receive a second-round pick in 2015 if Ryan Callahan is re-signed by Tampa Bay for the 2014–15 NHL season. But we will then also loose our 7th round pick.

Rangers have their work cut out for them this summer.

Some VERY tough decisions to be made.

Richards, Boyle, Stralman and Pouliot may ALL be gone this summer.

This is minus Richards(buyout), Staal(Trade for Picks)
and having 2 rookies on 4th line.
I would bring in Gionta/Hemsky/Setoguchi as a 3rd Liner to replace Pouliot
Depending on arbitrations cost(s) might not resign Diaz
and get a Defenseman (Matt Greene?) for the 3rd pair.

Land of no calls..
Gionta/Hemsky/Seto are the antithesis of what Pouliot brings to that line. Re-sign Pouliot at a slight bump from his current rate for 2 or 3 years and worry about finding a 3rd line center and 2nd pairing RHD.

Agreed but Pouliot is going to want 4 years minimum and a big Increase.
You need to replace Richards Points/Leadership/depth/compete level/mentoring.
I think Gionta could deliver in a more reduced role than he had in Montreal.
We need some older Leader who wants to finish his career in NYC.

I hope that isn't our lineup next year, we would have really regressed. Justin Faulk as our 6 dman, he hardly played any games this year. I like Dom Moore but he is good as a 4th liner, him at the third line makes us really weak there and who wants Gionta. Do we need yet another small forward who is on a decline.

That's nice. I fail to see where he gets that.

You need to replace Richards Points/Leadership/depth/compete level/mentoring.

I think you can replace Richards' stats internally by simply increase in production for what they have in-house already.

I think Gionta could deliver in a more reduced role than he had in Montreal.
Pass. They don't need to try to replace Richards by buying another aging player on the downside of his career.

We need some older Leader who wants to finish his career in NYC.

Could have sworn that's what Martin St. Louis is for....

Unfortunately I think the Rangers have put themselves in a position where someone significant will likely need to be traded. Even if they replace key role players like Moore and Boyle with cheaper, unproven alternatives, they're going to probably going to take a hit in the locker room as both are definitely "glue guys".

One could argue that Zucc was easily the team's best forward this season, and he's been very good in the playoffs as well. Arbitration eligible and just had his breakout season? I don't see anything less than 3.75M per getting it done.

3rd line center? AV seems less than enamored with JT Miller, so I doubt the Rangers go into next season with Miller as the primary option.

Lots of moving pieces, and they range from vital depth pieces to go-to guys. I think this team will look a lot different next fall, for better or for worse.

I'd love that team next year... Maybe slot Miller in for Grabovski... There are no other wingers I'd pluck from Free Agency... Hagelin and Kreider are becoming solid LW depth, and Poo plays well as a 3rd liner with Brass and Zucc... may as well leave it.

Speaking of which, I think Poo gets a 2-3 year deal at 1.7-1.9 per... no more.

Poo wont get much he's been a jurneyman his whole career don't yu think he'd take more terms and less $ when he getting some succes? And have you already forgotten that a majrority of this board was ready to kill him due to his play a fair bit into this season.

I see it more like this:

Chris Kreider ($2.500m) / Derek Stepan ($3.075m) / Rick Nash ($7.800m)
Benoit Pouliot ($2.0m) / Derick Brassard ($4.00m) / Mats Zuccarello ($3.750m)
Carl Hagelin ($2.250m) / Mikhail Grabovski ($3.500m) / Martin St. Louis ($5.625m)
Brian Boyle ($1.90m) / Dominic Moore ($1.50m) / Jesper Fast ($.805)

Same D. Only end up -342,000 in the red assuming a $69 million cap.

EDIT: I had John Moore at 1.5. If we get him at 1, we're fine.

The decisions made this summer may determine whether the Rangers are a one year wonder or if they can become a team that makes a return trip to the finals like LA, Boston, and Chicago.

Their depth has been absolutely crucial in this postseason run and the Rangers need to be careful in ensuring that they don't have too much money wrapped in only a handful of players. Richards is a goner. The organization needs to avoid a situation similar to the one in 2013 where players like Pyatt were getting regular shifts on the 3rd line with Asham and Powe on the 4th line. If the Rangers are active on the trade market, they need focus on cost-controlled players rather than the established highly paid stars.
