How about we don't give up any of our prospects for yandle.

Yandle has got to be extremely overhyped.

Well... Murray wants a Top6 forward and Matt Beleskey who leads the ducks with 17Goals is apparently a healthy scratch tonight....

It's obviously not an exact science. But to everyone saying Paul > Lazar... Consider that Lazar had 38 goals in his draft year and Nick Paul had 12...

Can't say I know a ton about Belesky but I'd be very wary of trading for a guy who's most common centres this year have been Kesler and Getzlaf... That's how we ended up with Conacher.

I think Paul could be a 2nd line LW while I don't think Lazar becomes more than a 3rd liner

theres on good reason to think that though. theyre the same age and Lazar was ripping it up last year the way paul is now.

i think itll take lazar a few years for his style to translate to the nhl, a guy who scores goals by driving the net hard

Pending UFA, leading Anaheim in goals scored... riding Getzlaf/Perry's coattails mainly but I believe from games I remember watching, he is the garbage collector in front of the net.

First of all, it's irrelevant where he is in the league in terms of deployment compared to other players, he still gets 3/8 of his starts in the offensive zone.

So it's irrelevant that he is the lowest in the league in ES scoring when he gets some of the lowest opportunities in the league to be put in scoring positions? You don't think there's any correlation between those two stats? To quote a poster earlier in this thread: "do you even math"?

I'd respect your opinion a lot more if you stopped trying to avoid the facts.

You tell me which facts I am avoiding, and I will address them. Tell me. Which facts? Which ones? Which facts have I not addressed? Please. Please tell me. I am waiting with baited breath. My loins ache with the anticipation of soon learning these facts.

The difference between a guy who gets 3/8 of his starts in the offensive zone and 4/8 of his starts in the offensive zone shouldn't be 10+ goals like it is right now on our team.

Eh, it's not like I never said Michalek wasn't slumping, or that I somehow disagreed with this statement in earlier posts when it was brought up. Now who is putting words into other posters mouths? Eh? Yes?

Secondly this whole respect your elders thing you went on for a while is just weird. No, I don't know who you are and I don't care frankly.

This board has existed for a long time before you got here, How is it weird that I point out an irony? Just because you're too new to "get it", it means it's weird?

Also, if you're going to be that way, then I guess I do not give a rat's arse who you are either. I'm glad this friendship is getting off on the right foot.

Am I supposed to agree with everything you say cause you're one of the posters who's been on the board for a while?

Good lord, no. I always assume that most people on HFSens disagree with me. I don't know why you assumed that, and the fact that you went on for a while about it is just weird.

If you're so concerned about hyperbolic posts then why did you do it twice in the same post? Then your examples use a "goal per game scorer" and a .980 save %?

It was a comparison, chief. You said that a player who is among the leaders in neutral & defensive zone starts "wasn't being used defensively". I countered that it was like saying that a guy with a bunch of goals "wasn't a goal scorer", and that a goalie who stopped a bunch of pucks "wasn't a puck stopper". How is that hyperbole?

All I really got from your post is that you keep insinuating Bertuzzi has hit this crazy age regression when he had a 12 goal pace last year.

Regression affects more than offensive numbers. Bertuzzi was basically only a PP weapon, because he can't get up and down the ice anymore. Want to talk about being bad at even strength? Bert was one of the worst defensive players in the league last year. I mean, for example, the guy had the 8th worst on ice Sv% when he was on the ice of all full-time (40+ games) players, and that's just one metric we have.

He had a 12 goal pace last year while getting the 3rd most PP time amongst forwards on the Red Wings, and being defensively incompetent. How is that a good pace? You want your 1st unit PP winger to score 12 a year as an offensive specialist? How is that even moderately impressive?

I really don't see how Grant's ceiling is worse than Michalek's floor, especially this season. All he'd have to do is literally not be the worst offensive player in the league and he'd have better production than Michalek.

Well, I guess we'll have to agree to disagree.

Any betting man would gamble on that

If Grant gets called up this season, assuming Michalek is still on the roster, I'll leave a $100 standing bet with you that Michalek out-produces him at ES. Easy money, I'm betting on a guy who is statistically due for an upswing, and you're betting on a guy to come in and basically have a career stretch of games.

Any time you want to take me up on this bet, just let me know.

Not to mention he [Grant] was excellent defensively last year when he came up.

Yeah, Grant is good defensively. No argument there, never said he wasn't.

Seriously nothing you've said made sense, you just used a bunch of capitalization and italics to stress certain points that were complete conjecture.

YOU should tell me what I said THAT doesn't MAKE sense, so I CAN clarify it FOR you, at least WITHIN the CONTEXT that it makes sense TO me.

Facts are facts, Milo is terrible and overpaid there's just simply no argument that can be made against that.

Milo is overpaid for his production this year, absolutely, but he's not terrible. He's producing at a pace that is drastically under his career averages across the board. I mean... I thought you didn't like Hyperbole? Why would you say such a thing?!? A 40-year old Bertuzzi is FAR closer to "terrible" than Michalek is.

So I'm going to say this one more time, in big old BOLD LETTERS followed by some italics, just so we're clear, because I think there are people who think that I'm some way condoning that Michalek has been worth the money we're paying him this year so far:
1) I am NOT saying Michalek is worth $4mil/ year
2) I am NOT saying Michalek's current offensive production is acceptable
3) I am NOT saying that he is in any way so valuable that he should be exempt from the trading list.
4) I AM saying that there are far better trade targets on our current roster to get rid of before Michalek, who actually is useful at SOMETHING, unlike some other guys we are paying NHL money to.
5) I AM saying that we need to stay above the cap floor, and unless we're planning on bringing in expiring inflated contracts to balance everything out, we can't trade Michalek and have him replaced by Grant or Bertuzzi and everything just be hunky-dory capwise for us, assuming we want to move out other players as well.
6) I AM saying that I like Grant, but he's a poor man's Chris Kelly and at best an injury-fill in 4th liner whose best game is worse than Condra's, who everyone around here seems to want to get rid of for some reason
7) I AM saying that Bertuzzi is in all likelihood completely done as an impact NHLer. I'll eat crow on that one if something changes, but he doesn't have the speed to even keep up with the average skaters in the league anymore. I expect him to do OK in the AHL though - I'm glad he's there in the sense that he can teach some things to our kids down there.

No use for the Sens they always miss the net so the puck will never get there.

Wouldn't like to trade for him. Will cost too much and it's inevitable, his production will drop and would likely drop significantly playing in Ottawa. For the price, wouldn't do it.

I'm keeping Paul over Lazar but I'm not as high on Lazar as most on here. I think Paul has much more offensive upside than Lazar at the NHL level

Duuude. Hockey's future syndrome. See a guy play half a season in the NHL. And say you like a kid who you've probably rarely seen play in junior more. C'mon man.
The hype paul is getting from some of this fanbase is reaching comical levels.

As for Lazar versus Paul.... Lazar is much more skilled and a better skater. Paul's hype train needs to slow down. Hes a nice player but hes a 225 forward hes as much as 60 pounds heavier then some players and generally bigger the 95 percent of the players he plays against. Paul's playing with a mans body in a kids league certainly helps him. Strangely i'd also consider Lazar overly developed physically compared to his peers too.

I think both are likely to become decent NHLers at best

I just think Lazar has less offensive upside

I think the real issue is how people on here think Lazar is the next big thing, not that I think both Lazar and Paul are "ok" prospects at best and me giving the slight edge to Paul

I don't why some of you people are getting so offended that I think Paul has more offensive upside based on what I saw and how that it seems to mean I think Lazar sucks and that, by offering him in a trade for one of the best offensive dmen in the league, I'm actually trying to pull a fast one on Arizona

If I offer Lazar it's because you gotta give to get, and if you want an awesome player back, you need to give up some of your best assets

Like I said

Based on what I saw

I'm no scout, I'm not an expert, I'm not claiming Lazar will bust and that Paul is a surebet

I said I think that Paul has more offensive upside than Lazar based on what I saw (and I watched a lot of Lazar's Cup run with the Oil Kings)

I could be wrong, no skin of my back

I kind of had a brain fart and worded the question wrong. Sorry. Is your only viewing of him from the wjc though? If it is, then it is kind of ridiculous to base off somebodies offensive upside based off of just a couple of games.
