Interesting they say that Bigras could potentially join Mackinnon on the team this year. Seems highly unlikely, even if he was really good.

That would be interesting. Especially since we waived 2 dmen. Sign Scuderi/ Ference and Bigras cracks the line-up?

Ference - EJ
Hejda - Barrie
Wilson - Sarich

edit: forgot about Sarich.

The advantage Bigras has over most defensemen his age is that he thinks the game at a much, much higher level. If he makes it, it will be because of that. I think he needs at least another year or two before cracking the NHL.

Bigras is almost mentally ready for the NHL. He's not as physically ready though, would like to see him bulk up a bit before being thrust into the big leagues.

That would be AWESOME!

Yeah it's interesting the mentioned they see Bigras being possible twice, and were direct about Siemens 'most likely' starting in LE.

Sounds like they really like this kids head for the game. Like others have said, he needs to get stronger though.

However, having a strong hockey IQ and skating are two major keys for making it at the NHL level.

I can't recall a defender making the NHL a few months after being drafted in the second round. Sounds to be a bad idea.

Not the best comparison but Erik karlsson made it to the big team his Draft year, but then again he was 15th overall and bigras is 32nd.

Edit: misunderstood Wikipedia, went through and reread.

Another year in the OHL would be great. Bigras had 38 points this year but he was only playing on the second power play team in Owen Sound. Since Codi Ceci is graduating this year, Bigras will be the kingpin there next year.

Roy: D Chris Bigras (#Avs second round choice of this year´s draft) could be a surprise and make a team.

i have no issue with this. he needs to get stronger but he can't be any worse than Zanon or Hunwick. pair him with the right vet and it could work.

still would prefer to see him in the minors.

It definitely sounds like Bigras could be the defensemen version of O'Reilly, just a really smart defensive player

I've been saying this since he was drafted and asked a few times if people thought he might be a darkhorse for making the team. Just a sneaking suspicion. But back in reality, if Sakic said Siemens should get time in the AHL I can't imagine he and Roy plan on letting Bigras make the NHL out of camp. MAYBE he gets a few game tryout and forces himself onto the roster the way ROR did, but highly unlikely.

To be fair, Bigras might have been drafted 32nd overall, but he was 19th ranked skater at the halfway point and 14th in the final ranking. He's a first round talent.
