Watching the Sabres/Kings game.
Buffalo is a horrible team from top to bottom.
How is that possible consider how long theyve been rebuilding?
They completely tore down the team from top to bottom in a way that no other organization has done. Rather than keep around a few players and hope to get lucky and win the lottery the way Toronto did, Buffalo shipped everyone out to at least guarantee themselves Eichel. Toronto was able to keep around guys like Kadri which is paying huge dividends. Meanwhile Zemgus Girgensons is Buffalo's longest tenured player. Zemgus Girgensons.
All things considered they haven't been rebuilding for that long. It's been 4 years since they scorched earth sold everyone. No one should have expected them to be that competitive until maybe this season. Unfortunately Tim Murray didn't see it that way and likely set them back another 2 years.
About half the roster seems to be completely checked out. They're only shooting themselves in the foot though because chances are Jason Botterill isn't going to keep them around and they will be lucky to see much NHL time with another team the way they're playing. Nolan, Larsson and Girgensons need to move on in the worst way. Pouliot and Kane are gone in a week. Gorges is gone. Buffalo will need to get creative with Bogosian but he is hopefully gone. Nathan Beaulieu negatively impacts the team more than any player in the league. There's a lot of players on Buffalo right now particularly in their bottom 6 that will be playing in European leagues sooner rather than later.
