With a bye week on the horizon and a compacted March schedule after that, Minnesota Wild coach Bruce Boudreau will start Darcy Kuemper in goal against the Dallas Stars on Thursday at Xcel Energy Center.

Kuemper, who will likely see plenty of action over the final quarter of the regular season, will be making his first start since last Wednesday in an overtime loss to the Chicago Blackhawks.

Devan Dubnyk is likely to start the final two games before the five-day bye week begins next Wednesday, so giving Kuemper an opportunity to get some playing time was vital.

"We think it's important with all the games we have after [the bye week]," Boudreau said. "If he didn't play, you're playing [Dubnyk] today, Saturday and Tuesday then you have the bye week, then when we return, we have the bye week and it'd be his first time in 2 1/2 weeks without a lot of practice. I don't think that's conducive to success.

"We need him to be good for us to be good because we're not going to be able to play [Dubnyk] 22 games in a row after the break."

Not being able to play Dub for the final 22 straight games? What a novel concept. :sarcasm:

Stars can't afford to lose any more games (102 is the max points they could get this season). Beating them tonight would almost kill their season.

Kemps should be the better of the goalies on the ice tonight. He just needs to not deflate after Dallas scores.

After how well I thought they played against Anaheim, I hope they come out with intensity again tonight. The good news is we most likely are not going to run into two goalies THAT hot, so we should get a couple tonight. Get them early and pile on.

Such a different feeling when playing Dallas at home vs. playing them away. Tough building to play in. Feeling good about this one, but who knows. Last game against them this season right? Chance to go 4-0-1.

The last time we lost 2 regulation games in a row was November 1st and 5th. Against Buffalo and Colorado

.

That stat is insane and really shows what this team is about this year.

And then you add that the 2nd loss was to Colorado ... mind blown.

Nice chance for Stewie/Schroeder.

Was watching the Col/Buf game. Buffalo was dominating them in the 1st period. Av's goalie keeping them in the game.
