11-16: LINDY RUFF ON WGR (23:54)
Ruff - "It is probably my biggest disappointment when we had injuries on defense against Carolina [in 2006]...

Ruff (cont.) - "...Would've been great to have won a Cup in Buffalo."

Ruff - "Jack Eichel is Tyler Seguin 3 or 4 years ago... There is some things I can't teach Tyler..."

Ruff - "[The Sabres] can easily make a push to the playoffs with what they got going on there."

4-1 Buffalo. Total romp stomp. Eichel and RoR dominate the game tonight. Eichel with a goal and two helpers. RoR with a goal and an assist.

Next game I see moderate scoring and a Buffalo loss.

A good measuring stick either way. We've been slipping in terms of carrying play over the last week. It will be good to see if some rest, a home crowd, and a top opponent can change that.

Over/under 6 points tonight for Benn-Seguin-Sharp? If Moulson and Gionta are out against them I'll take the over

Some seem to have high expectations vs one of the highest scoring teams in the league. It would be close if the Sabres didn't have average goaltending and average defense. You will be disappointed.

5-1 Stars

I agree that Dallas is going to be a big, big challenge for the Sabres D. I am looking at this game as a bit of a benchmark to measure how much our D has improved and how far we still have to go. It will be interesting to try and grade out each Sabre D's play tonight in association with the quality of the line they play against.

Dallas looked pretty strong in the couple of games I've caught this season. Maybe even the most improved team at this early point in the season.

Kane is practicing, but there is no chance he will play, right?

Zemgus is out for sure.

Pysyk seems to be the odd one out somehow....

It's certainly possible, but with a single practice under his belt I doubt it. This saturday will be the 4-week mark and it was originally stated as 4-6 weeks for recovery.

Odd if Pysyk is the choice. You can usually look at a previous game's shift chart and see it coming (e.g., Deslauriers prior to his scratch), but Pysyk played 7:51 in the 3rd period against San Jose - most of which was a tie game. In contrast, Cola and Franson played 3:19 and 2:43, respectively - and that pairing got mauled at ES by SJ's lesser players.

If Pysyk is indeed the scratch, have to believe it's because they want him to give more and they expect more from him, as others have referenced. I wouldn't expect it to last more than a game, either.

You've got three LD and three RD with Pysyk benched. He doesn't outrank Risto or Bogo, and while he may be better overall than Franson, Franson is on PP1 and has a specific niche.

I can't imagine the long-term plan is to keep Colaiacovo in the lineup over Pysyk. I think it's one of two things: (1) the aforementioned "you're playing well but we want more" scratch, or (2) the plan was always to use Bogo as the right-handed LHD but they want to give him a game (or two) to get up to speed before putting him on his opposite side.
