That's okay, you can't give them all ELCs and Tyszka's development curve just didn't go up enough ( injuries and bad luck didn't help obviously) . Hopefully he doesn't come back to bite us at some point but I doubt he will TBH.

Sad that no team was willing to give up even a 7th round pick for either one of them, the Habs probably made the right decision not to waste a contract spot for 3 years for either Tyszka or Walford.

Not signing Tyszka or Walford is a indication of how strong our prospect system is and how we are not over hyping grade B or grade C guys. If this was 2008-2016 range, we sign these guys for sure IMO. Times have changed and we need to be very careful with our 50 contract limit. Ikonen, Romanov, Ylonen are 3 more ELC we sign next year too. Plus there are several 2018 picks that might have good years next year where we sign some of them too.

Tough decisions like these have to be made when you waste contract slots on guys like Pezzetta Verbeek and Waked.
Those three are a dime a dozen replacement level AHL players, and should have been offered AHL contracts.

Centers and D should have priority if we are taking long shot chances; wingers only if they have shown really high end talent at Junior but have been overlooked up to now due to a specific factor that it can be hoped might be overcome (such as injuries).

If a team is thinking of drafting them, wouldn't it been smart to offer up a 7th round pick for them?

It's hard to say as you would likely need to know why the team isn't signing each player. I don't know how many players end up getting picked a 2nd time, I would think most don't get picked again because they didn't play well enough after being drafted the 1st time. Last year you had Adam Mascherin who the panthers tried to trade his rights but had no takers since he went back into the draft and was picked by Dallas in the 4th round. So why didn't Dallas trade a conditional 7th rounder instead of using a 4th round pick on him?
