Yep, looks like the admiral jumped the gun on this one.

A quick Twitter search turns up this article where the most I can scan before being kicked out by the paywall is that Blake is expected to sign by the end of this week, barring anything “unforeseen”.

It’s not unusual for the the undersized skill guy to drop. He’s hardly a sure thing even now. Plenty of no name Hobey Baker finalists that never made it in the NHL. We don’t know that he’s going to translate but he’s turned into a great pick.

I just don’t think it’s weird that he wasn’t a high pick. Didn’t we take Robidas kid in the same draft in a middle to late round? They were both high skilled, under sized with the classic “bloodlines” from hard working Dad’s that overcame being under sized in a much tougher league. One is close to making it, the other is buried somewhere completely off our radar. Could’ve easily been the other way around and often neither would make it.

Jackson's dad was a 'Late bloomer' in hockey.
He was 25 playing in his first full season in the NHL.
Jackson is only 20 and has plenty of time to get faster and stronger,
playing for UND. They are ranked #8 in NCAA Hockey. Jackson is in the right place.
Gotta like this pick by the 'Canes.
