The best forward, easily. You're talking McDavid/Crosby/Ovechkin/Jagr/Lemieux/Gretzky etc.

Right now, I'd take Crosby and McDavid and a bunch of other forward over any D/G in the league.

No - even for the Leafs - add any of Crosby/McDavid/Kucherov to your team will be a lot better than adding a Karlsson or Hedman.

#1C is by far the most important piece on a stanley cup contender IMO. I'd take a #1D over a winger though.

If it’s the actual best players right now, you have to go McDavid. But it changes. If you asked me in the early 2000s if I’d rather have prime Lidstrom or my choice of any forward, I’m going dman.
