Mario Kart 64 really is the best. I'm glad Schmidt didn't pull out a SNES.

I can only imagine how many OG controllers they go through if they play that often.

Haha, that's great. Reminds me of the 2010 Blackhawks bonding over Mario Kart Wii on the road.

I used to think Mario Kart 64 was the best, but it really does not hold up well at all.

In retrospect, I'd say it's one of the weaker in the franchise.

I wonder how often they popped in Goldeneye for a change. Lost count of how many Saturdays I'd spend playing multiplayer in that game.

I'd say it's damn close to being on par wtih Mario Kart 64 for peak enjoyment and binging.

Curious to hear what you think are better versions of Mario Kart.

Newer is always better.

But N64 seems to hits the hardest in the nostalgia nuts for most people.

SNES is stilll a 2D game, and nobody really bought a Gamecube or Wii U.
Wii is by far the least used console of last generation. Most people bought into the motion waggle gimmick, and lost interest after a month.

Everything about the newest Mario on the Wii U / Switch is better than anything about Mario on N64 aside from Nostalgia.

Controller response, Gameplay, Graphics , Framerate, Customization.

But like Holtby said, there's something more fun and intimate when you have a short chord.

Here's a comparison of Rainbow Road on N64/WiiU (Switch):

I'd rank them, from best to worst as:

Mario Kart 8/Deluxe
Mario Kart DS
Mario Kart 7
Super Mario Kart
Mario Kart: Double Dash
Mario Kart 64
Mario Kart Wii
Mario Kart Super Circuit

great article. MK64 is one of my favorite games of all time (and, for the purposes of the argument, far better than its predecessor and successors). There are many Saturdays where I wish for nothing more in life than three good friends to play it with.
