There’s a great scene in Major League when the Indians’ players are arriving to spring training.

For those not familiar with the film, the context is such: The team owner wishes to relocate the club, and purposely fills the roster with washed up players.

Jake Taylor, played by Tom Berenger shows up and the coaches exchange quips.

“He was an all star in Boston.”

“I wish we had this guy two years ago.”

“We did.”

“Four years ago, then.”

This got me thinking. With the signings of van Riemsdyk and Lucic, the Bruins have added a couple of former stars who are past their prime.

Who are some of the guys that come to mind when it comes to players the Bruins have brought in at the end of their careers?

Which ones petered out?

Which ones contributed something of value?

Which ones overachieved?

This is supposed to be a fun, light hearted activity, so let’s have some laughs and reminisce.

Let's see thinking back. (I was born in 90' so kinda dark)

Recchi is the only player that instantly comes to mind.
Still searching within.

Jim Schoenfield was the original unheralded tough as shit guy

He was all banged up when the Bruins got him.

Still, in 39 games he was a +17. He got hurt and the team faded.

Going waaaaaaaay back to the 1983-84 season how about these 2 guys ????

Here's a pic of our D-corps for that 83-84 season - looks pretty darn good. :thumbu:

Top Row: Milbury, Kluzak, Doak( Coach ), Hillier and Schoenfeld
Bottom Row: O'Connell, Bourque and Lapointe

Guy was all done at that point.

Other names that come to mind - Brian Propp, Charlie Simmer, Reed Larson, Jacques Plante, Felix Potvin, Simon Gagne and Jaromir Jagr.

Simmer and Larson were still very good.
