He's trying to highlight how much better this loss was than the losses vs Columbus and Montreal. It's more about highlighting how much a great team like Tampa respects how Toronto played, than to suggest that Columbus or Montreal players were disrespectful. So it's not all bad, guys!

I'd say maybe he's a little worried for his job, or that he's worried that other big changes will come. It's grasping at straws a little
He has no reason to worry about his job as long as Dubas is the GM.

Dubas and Keefe are good buddies.

It's just a terrible quote by a coach that seemingly lacks accountability. It's really hard to believe that a coach of a top 4 team in the league is bringing up how much respect they got after their first round exit, but here we are. Almost sounds like something Dorion would say in all honesty.

They shook hands with the Sabres after the Heritage Classic. Maybe the Sabres laughed at, taunted and gave wedgies to them in the handshake line?

He realized the absurdity of it as he was speaking and tried to back pedal. But the damage was already done. They'll probably print the quote on the notices to season-ticket holders telling them to gleefully accept the 10% increase in ticket prices being rammed down their flabby, gullible necks because 'your Leafs were respected in the handshake line after they were eliminated in the first round.'
The media will eat it up too and discuss the mass amount of respect the leafs have around the league all summer and Leafs nation will eat it up.

Yes it was quite different than last year when Price put Matthews in a headlock in the line and Weber gave Marner a wet willy

Isn't almost every handshake line just an exchanging of respect? I can think of only two minor incidents in the last ten years during the handshakes: a couple Coyotes yelling at Dustin Brown for his hit on Michal Rozsival in 2012, and Lucic crying about Weise mocking his goal celebration in 2014.

Honestly, there's so much nonsense from this series. The Leafs went toe-to-toe with the two time defending heavyweight champ of the world. This wasn't losing to Columbus or even Boston. The Leafs went out on their shields. I believe that they had Tampas respect.

Think about it. Toronto didn't have an elite goalie (like Tampa). They didn't have a D like Hedman. If anything, one could say Toronto over-achieved.

Most of us have seen "The Last Dance" so we know winning is a learning process. The Leafs have a good thing going and their trajectory took a hit this year (because Tavares will be a year older next year) but they still have a lot going on in their favor.

Does this mean that in the past other teams and/or individual players bragged, gloated, and rubbed the loss in Toronto's face during the handshake line?

If so, what teams and/or individual players do you suspect of showing Toronto disrespect?
Yes. Tampa has a different attitude since they're already champions.

This is the same franchise that gave their players Norris Division Champions rings after the 1992-93 season. And probably gave Matthews and Marner their participation ribbons.
