I'll be watching Justin Faulk tonight. I have a working theory that Faulk has played so few "big games" in his NHL career that he just plain doesn't have the ability to ramp up his play when the intensity goes up, and he just looks lost. He just doesn't have what it takes to "bring it" anymore, if he ever did.

I think we saw this a bit in the Calgary game where Ferland and Hamilton clearly had another gear, along with younger guys like Svech, Slavin, Pesce and Aho, and old-reliables like Williams. But Faulk just looked completely lost.

If he doesn't get his head out of his a$$ for a game like tonight's, I don't know what to say.
I'd offer a beer but I don't think it'll be enough.

Not sure what you're talking about...Ferland has been terrible lately to a point that you gotta wonder whether he's even healthy enough to play. Faulk has been excellent all season long while Hamilton (as always) has been very inconsistent.

Not only is Dougie playing with a new team but it’s also been documented he was playing with an injury for a couple months. The last 15 games or so he’s been excellent. To the point that if this is the real version of him then Faulk is the guy that needs to go, without a doubt.

By what measure has Faulk been more consistent than Hamilton other than having a consistent partner? Certainly not offensively. Faulk has only produced points in 15 games this year despite having free reign as the #1PP QB. Hamilton has produced points in 18 games and has 2 more points total. Goal scoring it isn't even a contest as Faulk has been absolutely terrible shooting the puck this year. Faulk's 5v5 shooting % this year is 1.09% which is 2nd to last among any player with a 5v5 goal. Conversely Dougie Hamilton is #2 among NHL D with 8 5v5 goals.

I can't see any obvious argument using simple/advanced stats to show Hamilton has underperformed versus Faulk defensively either.

Hamilton never had scoring issues. I never said that. It's what he does when he's not scoring that's the problem...particularly his game against the puck...and it hasn't improved the slightest bit over the years.

Hamilton is #2 in the NHL in Corsi delta (Chances For - Chances Against) with +326. Erik Karlsson is first with +344 and Brent Burns is third at +296. Not bad company to be in and all three of these guys are people might criticize for their defensive effort when it is clear statistically that they make up for it in generating offensive chances.

I'm open to hearing your arguments against Hamilton's consistency. But "just because I think so" has never been a strong argument with me. I like to see the supporting evidence.

Karlsson and Burns aren't necessarily known for their game against the puck...especially Karlsson isn't exactly a defense specialist...

I don't like blocking people, but I will. Can we make a deal just not to quote each other anymore. This take is ludicrous in every way it can be. I've been a fan of this team for over 40 years and being told stuff like this by a guy like you is too much for me to take.

"Faulk has been excellent all season long..." ... in what world? Show me a single piece of evidence that backs that up. Anything. A video clip of him being excellent. An obscure advanced stat. Anything. If you need it, I can show you at least 50 pieces of evidence that Justin Faulk has been not just bad, but far worse than he's looked to the "eye test." Offense dies when he's on the ice, and high-quality chances against occur at a higher rate than with any other Hurricane on the ice. The power play is anemic when Faulk is on the ice. Faulk is the very definition of awful in every conceivable way and I dare you to show otherwise.

Ferland had two beautiful *primary* assists against Calgary and would probably be producing at his early-season rate had he not been Wally Pipp'd on the top line by Nino Niederreiter's instant success. As we know, playing with Wallmark/TT isn't going to be great for anyone's stats, but Ferland is clearly healthy and dangerous again.

How does a Bulgarian become a Caniac?
Long story, maybe some other time. I'm Carolina fan since 2002, i was just a kid, 10 years old. Soccer is especially popular in Bulgaria but Carolina is my favourite (sport) thing in the world. It's funny because we suck epic but man i can't live without Canes at all. Just passion and pure love. Month ago my girl surprise me for the Christmas with Carolina jersey. He brought one from the official NHL shop.

Why is the "N" backwards?

Because the ancient Bulgarians stole it from the Greeks who do things that way.

Lempo gets close but not quite. It's an "I", not an "N." Cyrillic, as Lempo notes, is based on Greek and Eta in Greek looks like "H." Sometime in the 13th century the crossbar turned into that diagonal so that it looks like a backwards "N." #MaybemyonesemesterofRussianwasn'tawasteafterall?
