I think he has to be on the shortlist - but near the bottom of it. 38 years old and a pending UFA he's not a long term solution, and he's more likely to be a 3rd pair PP specialist at this point.

I'd rather explore legit top-4 options first, before sticking plasters like Zidlicky.

Seems like a Holland guy.

He's old, right handed, Euro, puck moving defenseman. Surprised we haven't signed him before.

You do realize that Kenny Holland is our GM, right?

The legitimately good, top-4 defensemen aren't available. Anyone we are able to acquire will have some warts (such as age in this case). Given his age and history with NJ, I am surprised that Zidlicky doesn't have a NTC. If the price was right I would consider him.

I have zero interest in Zidlicky.

I'd rather give up more and get a better/more longterm piece or hold pat with the roster that's got us near the top of the East.

Obviously, Ken Holland will probably be interested because Zidlicky is an okay RH D who can play on the power play, but I don't think he should be.

Edit: Seeing the new post from Rzombo explains why I don't want them making a deal. I don't think the Wings NEED to trade for a guy with warts right now, unless it's at a deep deep discount.

Think he would be a very good fit. Much better option than Petry. Don't see why people wouldn't want this. Better offensively than any defenseman not named Kronwall by a mile.

I could go either way on this, but I lean towards no because I'm afraid Holland would keep him around too long.

I'd rather go with XO.

He's old, and that's an unforgivable offense around here.

He's not my first choice, but if we could work Kindl into a deal for him, I'd be ecstatic. Fill an immediate need, remove two more years of a contract we don't want, and hang onto our higher end kids. All wins in my book.

Also, I don't see how the guy is a third pairing D in a bad way here. He's handing 18 1/2 minutes of ES a night in NJ, a minute more than anyone is doing here. And is still moderately physical, especially for his size. I'd actually be surprised if the price is that low in a trade, and could see him easily playing further up the lineup, maybe knocking a guy or two down a pairing.

The beauty of acquiring a guy like Zidlicky is he is a great stop gap.

Moreover, picking Zidlicky up allows us to fill the Need of RH Defense who can play the PP with out jettisoning any of Pulu, Mantha, AA, Backman, Sproul, Marchenko, XO, or Jensen.

By the time Zidlicky's contract expires Backman, Sproul, Marchenko, XO, and Jensen will have 2 years experience in the AHL. Basically Zidlicky allows us to stall deciding which young dmen we will trade for another 50ish games. This allows management to make a significantly more educated decision with our prospects.

win-win for this team.

I think anyone who is demanding we make a "more significant move now" should forfeit the right to complain if we end up trading the wrong prospects.

I want to make a significant move as much as anyone, but lets do so from a position of power, not desperation. Picking up Zidlicky lets us do this.

Kronwall

2013-2014: 49 points ; 25 PP pts
2014-2015: 16 points ; 8 PP pts

Zidlicky

2013-2014: 42 pts; 18 PP pts
2014-2015: 12 points ; 7 PP pts

If you guys aren't interested in another guy who can put up offense close to Kronwall, that's fine. I would love to have Zidlicky.

Wouldn't mind seeing Kindl <> Zidlicky trade. Takes one bonehead off from the next years cap and we add a short-term righty. Just a nice idea, Devils will get some younger legs to their league-old team.

Exactly this, I would think that he would be a last solution if nothing else works out.

Slightly OT, but a friend told me that there were rumors about Sekera. Has anyone heard about this? I haven't and I couldn't find anything.

Isn't him *not* being a long-term solution sort of a good thing? We have XO who's absolutely ready to go. We have Jensen, Marchenko, Backman, and maybe Sproul ready to go within a couple years.

We really don't want to clutter our roster with too many people when we have good talent coming in. You're probably not going to be able to swing a trade for a real legit, young, top4 RHD without giving up something significant. Maybe better to just trade for this, sign him for another year or two MAYBE, and see where our kids end up on the back end. Maybe they surprise us as much as the kids have on forward.

Unless someone can provide a source... Seems like baseless speculation, and I don't see why NJ would want to trade their most productive defenseman who's signed for cheap.
