What’s with all the conspiracy theories? It seems pretty straightforward.

Am I the only one whose mind wanders to more serious issues when they hear something like this?
Apparently it’s one of the worst flu seasons in a while.

It also doesn’t always present the way you’d expect a flu to, I’ve been feeling off for a little while now- sore lower back, lethargic, flushed face, headaches, trouble staying warm... went to the doctor and they said it’s this flu. No fever, no coughing or sneezing, nausea- but no puking. And it’s been 3 weeks now.

Not fun.

Thats how the last couple of years of flus have been for me, they're never accompanied by nausea for some reason. This year in particular though, holy crap, I was in bed for almost 3 days. It took about 2 weeks to feel 100% again, crazy.

It hit me last year. Down for about 6 days. No coughing or runny nose, just on-and-off fever with aches and fatigue.

If Zaitsev had anything similar, and it sounds like he did, then it's no surprise he missed extra time. Hope he can hit the ice at %100. It's gonna be great to watch this team all healthy (Matthews, Zaitsev, Andersen) going down the stretch.

I like Zaitsev, but Babcock loves to over use him at times. I have no doubt he can raise his game to a higher level for the playoffs. After all, he was a good player in the KHL and he had a decent rookie season in the NHL last year. Injuries and illness can derail the best of people, but management and the coach have faith in him and that is good enough for me.

So I was interested in who's been getting more icetime with Zaitsev out. Not many games to go off of but w/e.

Before the Zaitsev injury

Gardiner EV 19:53 PK 0:25
Zaitsev EV 19:13 PK 3:09
Rielly EV 18:13 PK 1:15
Hainsey EV 17:44 PK 4:03
Dermott EV 15:53 PK 0:29
Polak EV 14:47 PK 2:24
Carrick EV 14:45 PK 0:02

4 Games without Zaitsev

Gardiner EV 21:19 PK 0:17
Hainsey EV 19:46 PK 3:16
Rielly EV 19:18 PK 0:39
Polak EV 17:58 PK 2:49
Dermott EV 16:45 PK 0:08
Carrick EV 14:45 PK 0:00

Gardiner +1:12
Hainsey +2:02
Rielly +1:05
Polak +3:11
Dermott +0:52
Carrick 0:00

Polak with the biggest increase and I think he's been playing better recently. Also makes sense since he's next on the RD depth chart. Gardiner is getting a lot of trust from Babcock which is nice to see.

If Polak would just stop either the icings or the penalties I could deal with him. The combination of the two are just lethal to this team and they are going to be a huge issue in the PO. Especially the bone headed penalties (but those are usually because he gets caught out of position.

Yeah the penalties have been annoying. The interference call on him in Buffalo was justified, the cross checking Radulov into Andersen was just dumb by him but I'd take the matching roughing minors to Polak and Malkin any day when they faced the Penguins. I also wish there was a site that tracked icings. I couldn't find anything on NHL or natural stat trick.

Polak leads the league in I/p60 nobody comes close. Yes there are for sure good penalties to take in hockey, unfortunately he takes a lot of the bad types.
