I've heard he's a good bet for no.1 in 2007. He scored 33 points this season in 57 games as a 16-year old on an Everett team that could be better(even tough they made the playoffs). He has at least 2 seasons left in the dub. Has anyone seen him play?

I wouldn't say #1 in 2007, top 5 yes but you have Angelo Esposito in that draft who is considered by experts to be the best player in the world for his age and a phenome. You also have Michael Biega, Maxime Gretchev, Jimmy O'Brien, Tristian Lelwellyan, in this draft who should be potential guys to give people a run for 2nd overall and maybe even first but the way I see it this is how I see the top 5 SO FAR for 2007:

1. Angelo Esposito
2. Jimmy O'Brien
3. Tristian Lelwellyn
4. Michael Biega
5. Maxime Gretchev
6. David Skokan
7. Zach Hamill
8. Dwight King
9. Alex Grant
10. Ryan Kerr

some other great names to throw out are:

Forwards:
then guys like Logan Couture, Zach Tourquoto, Brad Malone, Logan MacMillan, Jean-Simon Allard, Dryason Bowman, Brett Leffler, Drayson Bowman, Travis Oleksuk, Brett Parnham, Sam Gagner, Bryan Cameron, Michael Stinziani, Ryan Hayes, Matt Sokol, Matt Rust, Brett Maclean...these are some forwards to watch out for from North America for that draft....this is just off the top of my head so I could be missing alot.

Defense:
Thomas Hickey, John Negrin, Kevin Mole, Mark Katic, Ben Rose, Teddy Ruth, Robert Bortuzzo, Colby Cohen, Brad Pawlowski. These are just some of the names to watch out for, there are more but like I said off the top of my head these are.

Tyson Sexsmith, Nicola Riopel etc etc etc.

I'd be sure to throw Jordan Staal in an early list for the top 10.

In a Seattle newspaper, Everett Silvertips GM Doug Soetaert compared Zach Hamill to a young Wayne Gretzky. Doug may be a bit biased, but that is still quite a statement about Zach's skills.

1. Angelo Esposito- Shattuck Saint Marys Prep
2. Jimmy O'Brien- US NTDP U17
3. Tristian Lelwellyn- Inianapolis Ice (USHL)
4. Michael Biega- Salisbury US Prep
5. Maxime Gretchev- Quebec Remparts (QMJHL)
6. David Skokan- Slovakia
7. Zach Hamill- Everette (WHL)
8. Dwight King- Beardys (Saskatchewan Midget AAA)
9. Alex Grant- Antigonish Bulldogs (Maritime Jr. A)
10. Ryan Kerr- Delta Flyers (Western Jr. B)

and as for Hamill going 3rd Joe Hallenback I would find it pretty hard at THIS POINT as the first 4 guys here are pretty special talents.

Fair enough but I have seen him play several times and he just impresses the hell out of me for a guy his age

Is Biega Canadian? Do you have any stats on him? And where will Biega and Esposito play next year?

Whats up with Sexsmith lately? Is he still a first round talent?

Biega is Canadian. From Quebec I believe. The idea is he might be college bound which why he's in prep school in the U.S.

A guy to really watch next year is Thomas Hickey. Drafted 3rd overall by Seattle in last year's WHL Bantam Draft, Hickey played AAA Midget as a 15 year old and was a first team all-star. In his 5 game call up to Seattle he scored 2 goals and had an assist and was named a star in 2 of the 5 games he played. This from a 15 year old D-Man playing his first 5 games in the WHL. If this kid fill out (5'11ish right now), look out.........

That's pretty impressive I agree.

Tom Hickey. Great hockey name in my books.

Gillies is 2008 ranked...hes a late birthday. I don't think Gillies is better than Lelewllyn (how ever it is spelled), O'Brien or Biega myself. But Gillies is 2008 ranked anyway.

Biega only but up 27 points this year at Salisbury on a good team. Those are decent numbers for his age but certainly not elite. It's not uncommon to see 15 year olds put up 50 points in the prep leagues. Josh Hennessy had 60 points at 15 and he was a second round NHL draft pick. I'd be really surprised to see Biega end up a high first round NHL draft pick.

I really think it's better to list players to watch at this age rather than attempt to do a top five or ten for the NHL draft. It's too hard to compare across so many different leagues.

I remember seeing him in the 2007 ranks. Anyways, he'll go top 5 in 2008 I guess.

ah right on the WHL page for the bantam draft Gillies is born December 2, 89 in which would make him 2008.

on the WHL page they go month/day/year not day/month/year
