If Bogo makes it past Thanksgiving w/o being put on IR for the rest of the season then ill give him his due for actually playing well so far.......we shall see

I still predict by the end of the month, he won’t be...

So far, so good, eh, gentlemen?

All joking aside I think the Sabres would be in the basement without Bogosian. Getting Connolly Bogosian back from injury is like signing a top tier free agent.

The other "free agent signing" we fell into is Beaulieu. Not quite the same tier as Bogosian, but he's playing his best hockey as a Sabre also.

I am shocked! Shocked I tell you ...

Shocked and pleased that Bogo hasn’t been out of the lineup. Good for him. I thought he wouldn’t make November. Hope his luck continues.

Weird glitch just happened. I was quoting yiu on another thread and it brought me to this thread...

1-9: Zach Bogosian with Schopp & the Bulldog on WGR (21:31)

#Sabres defenseman Zach Bogosian joins Schopp & the Bulldog now to talk about the team and Casino for a Cause!

Bogosian - I've never played a single game in the playoffs. I'm definitely hungry for it. Feel confident in the position we're in right now. #Sabres

Bogosian - I think winning can help a lot of things. The culture needs to be buckled down before you start winning games. There's no timeline on that. Some teams it happens right away, some teams it takes years. #Sabres

Bogosian - The years before this, you're looking at the standings differently. You think, personally, you're not playing well. This year is different. #Sabres

Bogosian on Casino for a Cause 2 - 1920s theme. I enjoyed the way everyone looked with the three piece suits and the flappers. Wanted a theme, and 1920s is a no brainer for me. #Sabres

Bogosian on being healthy - It's definitely been a while. I had a couple frustrating years in a row. It's tough to stay positive and see the light at the end of the tunnel. Just nice to be around the guys & contribute. #Sabres

Bogosian on Dahlin - Usually we're paired and I have the best seat in the house. He pulls off plays that most can't. He's a really good kid, super respectful. Guys like that you want to build franchises around. #Sabres

Bogosian - It's tough sometimes. Don't think anyone really knows the difference in pressure between a 1st pick and a 3rd or 4th pick. I think Rass handles it great. #Sabres

Bogosian - Sam (Reinhart) can play guitar. I can a bit, just not enough to get up there with the band. It's an open bar, you never know which guy will get up there. #Sabres

OK now I have the mental image of Sam shredding it like Yngwe Malmstein stuck in my head.

Normally something like that would annoy me because of how injury prone Bogosian is, but he's got 1 year left on his contract and then we don't have to deal with his injury prone ass ever again.

I was hoping he'd be gone before camp. Now we will have them holding a spot for him, thinking that he's going to contribute commensurate with his outsized contract, and shy of actually making it healthy to the trade deadline where he might possible get something... I fail to see a benefit. He's Mr. Glass, Sabre edition.

Proceed into the off-season as if he's not on your team next year. Even if he's ready to start the year, we cannot bank on him again. Something tells me Botterill is so incompetent that he already has him penciled in, to Dahlin's right.

What are our options with him?

On IR until October, conditioning stint in Rochester, play him the easiest minutes possible, trade him for a 3rd or 4th by the TDL if he doesn't break again, exhale slowly once he's finally off the roster, wait patiently for the same process with Okposo.

He's a guy I would be shopping around this offseason with only a year left. Need to shake up the leadership of this young team.

Say what you want, I don't think Bogo is part of the problem. His injuries have been an issue but having the off-season surgery should remedy that. If his wheels don't give him problems going forward I think the Sabres would be stupid to trade him just to "shake up the leadership."

I wish I had your optimism, but then I remember that Jimmy Vesey once rubbed Bogo out along the boards in a pretty standard "finish your check" type hit, not even a hard jolt, and he was injured for about 3 weeks.

Not to mention, it's just frustrating that multiple management teams here have apparently been taken in by Bogo's speed and size while ignoring or downplaying the fact that:

A.) As noted previously, Bogo's perpetually injured or recovering from being injured. Over the last four years, he's played in an average of 51 games per season. Consistently relying on such an injury-prone player basically guarantees that Buffalo's 7th defenseman will see a ton of action, to say nothing of the Sabres' typical injury luck, or lack thereof.

B.) Despite now being an 11 year (!) vet, Bogo still has the hockey IQ of a rock and cannot be counted on to help out younger players by providing a steady presence. Instead, he needs whoever his partner is to pretty much babysit him. As this has been the case throughout his career and across multiple coaches/systems in Buffalo specifically, I can't realistically forecast any improvement in this area.

C.) His tools do not translate to strong offensive output, transition play/zone exits, or defensive zone coverage.

D.) Given all the above, I just don't see how he can be relied upon at all going into next year. However, I'm concerned Botts will continue to insist that Bogosian is important to the team's "success," of which there has been little to none.

You don't trade Bogo to "shake up the leadership," you trade Bogo because he's just bad at hockey, injured or not.

I've always kind of been in Bogosian's corner and given him the benefit of the doubt, but yeah, that's enough. Guy can't stay healthy enough to play in the top 4 and costs too much to be a 5-6.

He's not a good defenseman so yes he is part of the problem
How do you shop a guy that is recovering from a surgery like that? You dont.
Sadly this is probably true.

There was a game late season where he could barely get over the boards, figured he was f***ed

He had a solid first half of the season. I’ll happily give him that, unlike most.

But I understand those who are at the “enough is enough” point
