Well, after much teasing and what not I'm finally back with another poll idea, this time for yrs. of birth (1957-1987).

It's going to be a 31 team round robin with each team playing the other once and the winner will be the team with the most points at the end (So ties can occur here). This tournament will take place over the next 31 weeks with 3 matches each weekday (This week only matches will be Tuesday-Saturday).

If anyone wishes me to make any lineup changes, let me know. Some of these players are played out of position to best fit different players into the lineup.

Lineup decisions based upon stats from hockeyreference.com.

For current players vote based upon career projections, for retired players vote based upon their careers.

Our 5th match is 1985 vs. 1970:

1985:

NHL Players Born in 1985 | Hockey-Reference.com

Alex Ovechkin-Ryan Getzlaf-Corey Perry
Loui Eriksson-Jeff Carter-Ryan Callahan
Andrew Ladd-Patrice Bergeron-Nathan Horton
Clarke Mcarthur-Paul Stastny-Drew Stafford

Shea Weber-Ryan Suter
Brent Burns-Brent Seabrook
Dion Phaneuf-Andrej Mezaros

Jaroslav Halak
Brian Elliott

1970:

NHL Players Born in 1970 | Hockey-Reference.com

Rod Brindamour-Mike Modano-Teemu Selanne
Stu Barnes-Jeremy Roenick-Tony Amonte
Martin Gelinas-Trevor Linden-Wes Walz
Andrei Kovalenko-Alex Zhamnov-Bill Guerin

Nicklas Lidstrom-Sergei Zubov
Bret Hedican-Richard Smehlik
Sean Hill-Keith Carney

Olaf Kolzig
Roman Turek

1970 got my vote.

Impressive rosters.

Any team with Patrice Bergeron on the 3rd line is going to be something to contend with.

Despite the fact that 1970 has the singularly best defenceman and better goaltending, I'm going to have to go with 1985.

That strength up the middle is daunting, and add Ovie for that extra generational touch. Not to mention, I think 1985's defensive corps is deeper.

It's really close though. Interesting.

Fun. 1970 has that crazy #1 pairing and is better in net... but I like 85 elsewhere and overall. Lidstrom and Zubov could play half the game...but the other pairings would get eaten up.

This is the cup-final preview of this poll series, it seems. Crazy good teams.

'85 is suuuper deep everywhere but in goal. '70 team is great everywhere except D depth. Linden and Guerin on the 3rd and 4th line is impressive.

Players born in 1970 are about as far back as I go as a fan. Votes 1985.
