The gvt/g forwards look just as biased towards post-expansion players, so the problem isn't just with lack of early save percentage data like I thought it might have been.

The top 9 gvt/game goalies all played after expansion? That tells me that it isn't helpful in evaluating pre-expansion goalies.

I think the problem is that the cutoff needs to change according to era. Older goalies didn't have the GP that the modern goalies did, for obvious reasons.

Maybe I'll try the table again tomorrow. Maybe 60 post-1968/30 pre-68
as a cutoff would work.

especially considering his often lack-luster regular season performance

Leetch was just over a point per game in his career and won a smythe but since we sucked for the 2nd half of his career he only had 95 games played.

Quick last year? Or what Giguere did in 03?

If the question is solo performances.

If all time. You gotta throw in Gretzky and his all time leading points, goals and assists in playoffs.

Jari Kurri has to be in the mix too. After all is the only player to be 4 time the playoff goal scoring leader of a champion team. And has been consistenly good in play-off. 86 and 93 are is only 'weak' play off. Maybe his last ones too considering he was then healty sratch for few games with the Avs. But apart from these he always show up, and a score a tons of clutch goal.

Gretzky and Lemieux are the consensus top two for skaters.

I'll be the f to diagree. While success had followed both players, neither raises their respective game to a level I would describe peer-to-peer as a playoff performer. They can be described only as success.

Gretzky - 4 Cups, 2 CS
Patrick Roy - 4 Cups, 3 CS

Messier - 6 Cups, nearly 300 pts in playoffs
Rocket Richard - 82 goals in 133 playoff games
Sawchuk - 4 Cups. He even managed to win one for the Leafs.

Current:

Very solid list. I will add: Yzerman, Fedorov, Ozzie, Vernon, Belfour, Fuhr, Richter, Gilmour, Trottier, Recchi, Chelios. Murphy, Robinson, Potvin, Bourque

Perhaps undervalued playoff goalies:

Cujo
Kolzig
Vanbiesbrouck
Lalime
