Gomez is BETTER than some of the TRASH we have signed this year. Alright I said it.

Wasn't it you who said that Gomez had to show...SOMETHING to justify getting more of a look instead of being shown the door?

Or was that Eddy? :sarcasm:

And if Gomer's Pyle can play like this AND get rid of Space Junk at the same time, even better.

So he is better then Bernier is what you want to say.

Better than Bernier, better than Josefson, better than Gionta, possibly even better than Zubrus too.

Better than Carter as well, though he doesn't have a contract either.

Josefson is better defensively and on faceoffs. Gomez has gone 5 out of 23 on faceoffs so far this preseason, you can't have that from your bottom 6 center. Gomez is better offensively and at carrying the puck. If Gomez can continue playing like this I would sign him because I rather have him over Gionta but I have my doubts considering what has happened in the past few seasons for him.

That's one of the reasons why I think the Devils should just keep Gomez around instead of immediately signing him to a contract. It's not like other teams will be lining up to sign him. Also I have a hard time saying a guy is better than other counterparts off of one good game in preseason.

I guess I'll start with this, the best thing(s) about Barclays are the surrounding area and the scoreboard. I was a bit envious seeing all the stores (Best Buy, Target) and food places around the arena. They even had a shake shack right across the street after the game where I had a p/b shake afterward.

The arena itself is very easy to get to, like Citi Field it's right across the street from the subway (a 22-minute ride from Penn Station). Going in the scoreboard hits you like the moment you walk in because of the open area on the concourse.

Things inside were a bit disorganized though, the lines to get in blended into one another and there was no divider seperating them. Most of the concourses were spacious but certain areas were really problematic walking around, mostly upstairs. Plus people were allowed to walk up and down aisles and rows all throughout play which really compromised the view. Literally one person stands up and you can't see a good chunk of the ice. And someone in the row in front of me was actually smoking, yeesh.

The view itself from 209 was pretty good when people weren't standing in the way. The food choices were okay, mostly Nathan's, Brooklyn Burgers and a few other specialty stands. One of them was actually a Boomer and Carton kitchen lol. You can also tell the building has good acoustics, the crowd was half fill but you could still hear the noise pretty clearly.

I never wanna see Henrique take another shootout again. When the real games start, he shouldn't be an option. He's 1 for 10 career I believe, and 0 for 1 on penalty shots. He's not for the shootout. It's been probably one of the biggest weaknesses in his career.

I don't get all the Gomez love lol, yeah he was around the puck more but still looks slow as crap. Kaberle's been the best of the tryouts so far, I'd almost rather sign him just so I don't have to see Harrold waste two minutes on the PP ever again.

Unless the area changed those stores around there are a bit low scale from the last time I was over there.

It did sound loud, but the place is a good concert venue so that makes sense.

I also was at the game tonight.

Severson was passing and checking like a pro. Seamless chemistry with Greene.

That first period was brutal. Some horrible neutral zone play.

For the most part, I liked the Barclays Center. You can see how the sight lines will get annoying when people stand up. But getting in and out wasn't too bad.

Harrold should be treated like drinking, all in moderation.

And to be used on the power play only when hell freezes over. I'm tired of seeing him just pass the puck around the point with zero chance of shooting - not that his shot is good anyway but it just gets so predictable and ineffectual.

He made a nice pass that lead to Ryder's PP goal though.

That might be like his third or fourth power play point ever lol. Don't get me wrong Harrold does at least get rid of the puck and is a good passer but being one dimensional doesn't usually work. Same with Gomez on the point, he'll try to shoot here and there but should be a pass only option for the most part.

And Ryder does look hungry to prove last year was because of injury. That's why I don't want to get rid of him, there's the chance he rebounds to 25 goals and we need that.

I think the last nice power play pass Harrold made was last pre-season to Gelinas when he bombed it in and before that might have been Kovy's goal in the ECFs

It just made Newark pale in comparison in terms of the surrounding area sad to say. Newark's got plenty of bars if that's your thing but the rest is still a work in progress. It wasn't exactly Manhattan either but I wasn't expecting as much.

Gomez looked very good passing the puck, but that's about all he can do anymore. Pete has his pet as the 13th forward and I would sign Gomez as a 14th forward for his passing ability alone if they plan on giving Reid another year in the minors. Reid looks ready, so I'd imagine at some point he could be in for Brunner or Clowe (when he bangs his head again) and Gomez can take a hike

God, Zubrus on the second line...YUCK

Gomez was rad tonight.

Elias is in total "This is preseason who gives a ****" cranky old man mode, I love it.

Matteau has hands of stone.

I get what you mean but it's not really an area to hang out where at least there are decent bars around the Pru though I wouldn't hang around either area on non event days haha.

So Pete agrees with us and really liked how Kinkaid bounced back from his mistake. Some praise which I hope means he has the inside track to be the back up.

He liked Gomez tonight. Thought the kids on D had nerves early and settled in.

Elias made fun of Henrique and Havlat's shootout moves and thinks we need international rules and should just let Boucher go everytime haha.

Honestly I feel pretty good after that. I think we have a good team that is slowly coming together bit by bit. I think once its fully assembled we can end up surprising a lot of people.

The most pleasant surprise tonight was the PP. Considering how many of the regulars were not playing it looked pretty damn good. Elias and Havlet were really wheeling and dealing with the man advantage and that was when Ryder looked his best too. Think how it will look when you add proper guys at the point and the threat of Gely's bomb of a shot. We might have a good and consistent PP this year (I know we were 9th last year but it wasn't consistent).

PK looked better tonight too and that was again with lots of the regulars missing (never want to see Pelly on the PK again).

4 on 4 looked like dog ****, but again a lot of that was the personnel.

Shootout isn't going to bother me until it starts costing us points again. Preseason with our back up goalie in is no sweat off my back...for now. I do want us to get that monkey off our backs as soon as we can though. Crap starts to become a self-fulfilling prophecy.
