This trendy hatred for DD is really getting old and seriously lessens your credibility. The guys has bounced back, just get off his back this is getting ridiculous. Now, getting rid of Gionta and preferably Brière, two undersized unproductive players (although Gio in a lesser role and lower cap hit could be an asset) would seem like a smart move.

Now, getting rid of Gionta and preferably Brière, two undersized unproductive players (although Gio in a lesser role and lower cap hit could be an asset) would seem like a smart move.

At the beginning of the season (the first 20 or so games) I wanted nothing to do with Desharnais and thought that, with the lack of production and opportunities that he was still being gifted, he was dragging the whole team down.

With his recent play however (last 45-50 games), I'll admit he certainly has stopped being an anchor for this team and actually turned into a pretty effective player. The fact that he has been able to deliver consistent offense while not being horrible defensively (which he was early on in the season) is a testament to his usefulness. I now consider him an integral part of the team going forward in the immediate to mid-term future.

However, I also understand the ''hate'' DD gets from other posters and the way they perceive him. He is still undersized; beyond weak along the boards and in puck battles; dependent on easier minutes, big forwards and high offensive zone starts % to be effective; not physical whatsoever; not proven whatsoever in the playoffs; below-average defensively and incapable of actually shooting the damn puck on the powerplay.

Let's not kid ourselves, DD's much too flawed as a player not to elicit a least a modicum of doubt on his true contribution to the team and potential inclusion in ''ideal'' lineups for next year. It could easily be argued and rationalized for some that his faults and high-maintenance needs are actually too much to be ignored and that the team may be better overall down the road without him in the lineup.

To deny that modicum of doubt and the argument it therein holds is to deny reality.

This is pure fantasy, but if we can keep Vanek and acquire... let's say Dany Heatly for cheap.. 2 - 2.5M or something like that, we can have a decent lineup. Then, we can try to get Stewart from Buffalo. Of course, we'd also have to get rid of Bourque and sadly of Eller as well.

I don't hate DD and he is a great little player but I feel as though he is in the way of Galchenyuks development, and I bealive that the habs could get a solid return on him bassed on his contract and recent play. And with plecks, gallchenyuk and eller (minus his last 20 games) we have superior options down the middle

In my ideal world MB finds a way to sign sweetheart deals with everybody we have/wanna keep and sign Moulson.

PK at 7.6M x 8 yr
Vanek 7.5M x 5 yr
Markov 4.5M x 4 yr (6,5,4,3)
Eller 2.325M x 4 yr (1M raise)

Pacioretty will retire if we trade DD.
He did not talk about a trade of DD.
Just made magic to remove him from the line-up.
LOL at no DD and having CHucky as the 1st line center.
It is most likely that Chucky will be a center next year.
But not likely that he grabs DD's spot the same year.
Without a 19 game slump, DD would be more in line with 70 points...
You appear to have had your lunch stolen by DD at some point in your teens. Which is pretty pathetic, considering most teens won't get scared by today's version of DD.
I guess magic may happen.
Galchenyuk will be a center next year.
But he will have a tough time to steal DD's spot.
To me it is a very god news.
I want to see Chucky steal DD's spot...
DD is having a great bounce back. But if you can find a way to get rid of that contract I think you jump at it. Same can be said for Bourque, Briere and in my personal opinion one of Gorges or Emelin.
Bourque wants to be traded (and he will once he starts to produce).
Briere wants to stay here.
Gorges will not be traded until Beaulieu and Tinordi are top-4 (which may never happen).
Our lineup next year will likely be without Vanek, though it would be great to be able to keep him.
Agreed.
It is posts like this that make me feel blessed that you don't make management decisions for the Habs. Galchenyuk as a #1 center and DD just banished out of town lol?
Just like magic: Galchenyuk is our top center without playing center in NHL.
Then DD goes away and we have nothing in return...
Magic:shakehead
Neither Vanek or Pacioretty are legit 40 goals scorers.
Oups. I would pretend that Patches is on his way.
His progression is pretty good...
Vanek could very well never reach 40 goals again.
DD's cap hit is a bargain considering what he's done the second half of the season. With Eller an Pleks providing limited offense, I'm more worried about them than Desharnais for next season. However, I expect all three to have good offensive years next year. They're all certainly capable.

I still think when Galchenyuk's ready to play center, and if Eller gets going, Desharnais would make a useful winger and injury replacement center. But we'll cross that bridge when Galchenyuk's ready, if Eller can get his game together, and if Pleks doesn't decline over the next couple of years.
Let's see how Galchenyuk, Eller or Plek can outpace DD first.
Best choice would be to see Eller and Galchenyuk become top-2 center.
For now, we only have Galchenyuk as a top-6.
I'm sorry, but that's just stupid. Pacioretty is on pace for 37 goals with missing about 10 games... he's a 40 goal shooter, if not this year than in the very near future.
True but he should only get 35 this season.
Seriously.. since when do centers picked 3rd overall play the role of 1st line center?
He is still pretty young.
We need to wait till he gets to the next level.
It will happen: probably next year but it could take two years to get there.
He played the majority of his final half season in Sarnia as a winger, just saying, he has not had a lot of experience playing Center at a high level.
Yes but Habs management are already posturing him to be that center.
In 2015-16, he wil be there.

On the contrary, DD is not on the way.
With DD there, we are not handling AG a spot.
He needs to do better than DD to earn the spot.
As for DD, I agree with a trade when he will score 65+ points...

I kinda want to as well.

But Galchenyuk stealing DD's spot should mean DD at wing, or centering another line. Not DD ending up in the AHL.

It's time to move Galchenyuk to centre permanently and give him pure skill on the wings. The top line I have here already has established chemistry. Throw all the money in the world at Vanek and use whatever's left to sign Setoguchi, who I think would be very good depth scoring for this club while being able to play some D. Briere and Seto can be switched if you like. Trade or buyout Bourque, do not resign Gionta. White and/or Bournival sub in at centre when Prust is injured or whathaveyou.

Tinordi-Subban
Markov-Emelin
Beaulieu-Gorges

Murray-Pateryn

Give Tinordi prime time action beside Subban. A 6'6 physical dman who can skate as well as he can does not come along very often, we need to capitalize. I would love to see Tinordi-Gorges as our shut down PK pair, feel it could rekindle the defensive prowess of Gill-Gorges. It's also time for Beaulieu to get full time action, play him beside Gorges so that he is free to roam the ice and make some rookie errors. Resign Murray as a 6th/7th dman who subs in when one of the two young dmen struggle. Launch Bouillon to the moon.

That x1000. Of course you try to sign Vanek, might work, might not. But if you get him, it's clear that we're set at forwards. You could move some pieces, but nothing major.

Use whatever money is left to improve the D.

With Vanek and an improvement at the #3-4D position, this team would look great.

2023/24
Gallagher wins the Richard trophy on the final game of the season scoring six goals versus the Toronto Maple Leafs, the last two on a broken leg which would lead to his retirement after the playoffs (the doctors later told him that if he hadn't hid his injury they would not have been forced to amputate). vail wins the Selke trophy with with only a single goal being scored against the team while he was on the ice, one he put in net himself on a bad cross-crease pass on his first shift of the season. Canadiens win their sixth straight Stanley Cup with Markov as their captain, he retires and is instantly inducted into the HOF with more assists than anyone else in history had points, is given the GM's job and gives himself the job of Kovalev's asssistant coach naming Subban the new captain.
