Dave Ellet's over time goal. I remember exploding when this happened.

yep.
it was the night of the second Passover seder. we watched the game. my uncle left our house after the 1st overtime. we really did think that it would be the year that we'd beat Edmonton. sigh....

but my memory is of jets vs oilers game 3. i was at it. i bought my tickets at the ticketmaster in the Jets' store in Polo Park. it was an afternoon game. i remember it being nuts. i remember high-fiving my friend and accidentally poking him in the eye when Ducky scored.

i do have to say that the Jays-Rangers series from last year is damn high up there. the drama of the Joey Batflip game is probably as great of a game as one can get. i had a dinner that night and ended up watching the game up until Martin threw the ball off of Choo's bat. it was an emotional-as-hell game.

also up there: the Gretzky-Lemieux-Ducky passing play/goal in the Canada Cup. Ben Johnson winning the 100 m (and then losing it a few days later), and Kirk Gibson's home run

That first shift was something special. The Byfuglien nod as he skates to the box is priceless

Being at that game was unreal, that first shift was something else. The energy in the building was amazing for an exhibition game. Not quite the same energy right now  They didn't even do a go jets go chant before the anthem last game.

Yea it's tough to lose the Go Jets Go chant before the game I think the season is catching up on the entire fan base. Hopefully it's just a bounce close to bottom and we are back up competing next season.

Ya, don't wanna get off topic here, but Im not sure why they keep playing the intro song so long and loud, that's what has drowned out that chant, before they cut the song early so the chant could go on, someone get on the phone with the guy in charge of that

You were on Coaches Corner? :amazed:

Favourite Jets 2.0 would probably be the first game against Montreal or the first playoff game.

Favourite sports probably would be some tennis championship (been following tennis closely for a long time). Crosby's Olympic goal would be up there as well.

Lol Yeah, there is a group of us all dressed up like Don Cherry for the Opener, and one of the guys in the group knew someone at CBC and told them, next thing we know he's getting a call and we are shooting a skit on This Hour is 22 minutes, and then find out that Ron and Don found out about us and wanted us on the show.

Needless to say we all crapped our pants, someone mentioned we are the only non-sports people ever on the show. Lol was a damn surreal day man lol.

Don was kinda short and jerky with us, but Ron was a SUPER nice guy. They both took pics with all of us after Coach's Corner.

My favourite Jets 2.0 moment was when it was officially announced on TV that they were coming back.

My favourite non-Jets moment was watching the Vikings win the super bowl (oh wait I think that may have been a dream).

Watching the Jets in the post season last year. Watching the Bombers go to the Grey Cup three times...sucks they lost all three.

Also watching the Canucks go to the Stanley Cup. Being stationed out there, it was really easy to get caught up in the cup craze. I didn't miss a single one of their games that year.

Then they lost too.

Jets 1.0: I wasn't really into hockey as a kid. I only grew to appreciate and love it as an adult. But I will always remember my first NHL game. It would have been '83 or '84 or so, we went to see Jets @ Edmonton (we lived in Saskatoon at the time). I don't remember what happened during the game, but afterwards my dad's friend covered the Oilers for CP, he got us into the dressingroom and we met Gretzky wearing little more than a towel who very politely gave us our autographs.

Of course thinking back on it now I wish I could have gone to get Hawerchuk's autograph, but it is still a fun memory.

Hockey participatingl: like I said, I wasn't much into hockey when I was younger. I did play for one year when I was nine, but I was bad. Really bad. Worst player on the worst team in the worst division bad. I only ever scored one goal - but man can I remember that goal. I played defence, and somehow the puck came to me in our own end, and I looked up and I had nobody between me and the opposition's net. I was on a breakaway. Skating the length of the ice - man did that feel like it took forever. I could hear skaters behind me. I got close to the net and I had zero moves of course. I let loose a weak, fluttery shot - but their goalie muffed it, and it slid between his legs. I had scored!

Sports participating: winning the Charleswood Curling Club youth championship as a skip. It was somewhat tainted as we picked up a ringer third for the game because our regular player couldn't play, but still fun.

Jets 2.0: really, it has to be the drama over their return. The spring of 2011, following the news out of Phoenix and Atlanta every day, then the impromptu party at Portage and Main, then the official announcement on May 31st, the wondering about the name, the first draft (with Chipman just casually slipping in "Winnipeg Jets" when introducing Chevy)... the actual games themselves were almost a letdown in comparison.

Mind you, taking my 5 year old to his first NHL game (preseason Jets @ Oilers, same as my first game) was pretty special too, even if he was tired and we had to leave early in the third period.

Any sport: Man, that just might go to the Royals the last two years. I was a Royals fan as a kid, but they had been so bad, for so long, I had long ago written them off. But then in 2014 mid way through the season they started winning. A lot. They got into a wildcard game, were behind, they won. They made it all the way to game 7 of the world series before losing. Which seemed like a magical fairytale by itself - surely they would go back to sucking for another 30 years. But man, they kept it up in 2015 - and this time they won!

Jets 1.0: winning game four in Vancouver putting us up three to one. No way could we lose a series after being up 3-1 twice! Or so the thinking went. I remember John Paddock pumping his fists after the win.

Jets 2.0: 2011 draft - "On behalf of the Winnipeg Jets".

Bombers: Finally winning the Western Final in BC in 1984 to go on to the Grey Cup.

Personal: This season my kid's hockey team made it to the semi-final where they beat the one undefeated team in the league. The team that beat us 10-0 earlier in the season (and had been featured on the front page of the local paper for their undefeated season). Our guys were happier than I'd ever seen a flock of kids.

I can't choose just one memory -I'll stick to games I was at.

1. Ellet OT winner was at the game with my now departed grandfather. Sat between the bluelines under the upper deck and thought it would come crashing down. I took him to the game as a belated Christmas gift.
2. Pre-season game #1 Jets v 2.0 – that 1st shift and build up before the game was crazy.
3. Jets v Red Wings 1996 the final game of Jets v 1.0 – when Khabby won game 5 for us I travelled back to Winnipeg so I could go to the game.
4. Jets v Habs home opener – what a day
5. Kings v Coyotes (old Jets) 2008 – honeymooned in Arizona with the sole purpose of seeing the old Jets – wore my Jets jersey to the game and just soaked in the atmosphere. I had not been to an NHL game since the fateful day in 1996. (I don’t count the NHL exhibition games that I attended here.)
6. 1976 Czechoslovakia v Jets – WHA – Jets won 6-5 – Jets were trailing 4-0 going into the 3rd. The Jets scored 5 goals in about 8 minutes to take the lead. Czechs tied it and Jets won with a couple minutes left. My brother was 3 at the time and my Dad missed most of the 3rd period goals taking my brother to the washroom. Loudest building I had ever heard at the time.
7. Manitoba Moose- Final game at Winnipeg Arena- what a special night.
8. Manitoba Moose -MTS Centre opening – sat in the upper deck – such a new car feel that night. Felt a premonition of things to come.
9. Jets v Penguins – 1st home win for Jets v 2.0 – shared it with my Dad, wife and uncle who had flown in from Colorado.
10. Jets v Ducks – 1st playoff game of Jets 2.0 – loud building –poor ending

Honourable mentions – Team Canada v Finland –world juniors in Grand Forks (blizzard night), Canada v Slovakia semi-finals Vancouver Olympics, Canada v Russia 1999 world junior –Luongo was great in the OT loss, Oliers v Coyotes (old Jets) 2009 took my daughter to her 1st NHL game – she was 1 ½ and decked out in Jets gear- was on Sportsnet during the game and the plays of the week, Kings v Jets the night Tkachuk got his 50th, Canadiens v Jets tuxedo nights (Willy Lidstrom hat trick), Bruins v Jets v 1.0 the night Kyte and Kluzak had an epic fight, Jets v Sharks 1st season back and met up with a bunch of crazy HF’ers (late night)

Haven't got a huge list yet, but I'll try:

Attended live:

2010 Memorial Cup Semis: Wheat Kings beat the Hitmen in OT to advance to the finals on home ice. Calgary beat them in the east final and the round robin in the Mem cup, and jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the game. Was a crazy atmosphere.

Last years game 3 vs the Ducks: even though they lost, it was one of the best days ever. Watching the Jets in the playoffs live for the first time was unforgettable.

Not live:

2015 ALDS game 5: 7th inning is about all I need to say here.

Jets-related: My first time seeing the Jets, having only just gotten into hockey, after our family moved from Winnipeg to Calgary back in 1980. I was a little doe-eyed kid in my freshly-minted Jets jersey, and I had run down to the ice level to watch the warmup, face pressed flat against the glass like any kid you see these days in the highlight reel. I stared agog until I heard a thumping sound from right in front of me, and another shortly after; the Jets players had noticed me and many of them were giving the boards in front of me a little whack with their stick in show of support.

Honorable mention: Watching the Jets / Panthers game at the Planet Hollywood Sportsbook back in 2011.

sZdTeOK.jpg

The minutes-long review of Kane's (potential) late tying goal was like a knife twisting in my chest; the several goalposts in OT didn't help. And when the Jets winning their first shootout ever, I vaulted over the chair and RAN like a little child to the pay window.

Non-Jets: If we're going to count "sports entertainment", watching Wrestlemania 3 on closed circuit TV in a packed Saddledome -- yes, back then, they could fill arenas with people watching the show on a giant screen. Savage vs. Steamboat made me a fan for life.

Otherwise, I'll have to go with the gold medal game against Sweden. Was watching the game in a packed house in Earls at St. Vital. Everyone was fatigued and liquored up, but not me, as I was going strong with vodka & red bull. And after one of our players got run into the board, I stood half-way up on my stool and yelled "That DOES it, I'm going down Kenaston to burn down the IKEA -- WHO'S WITH ME?!" and got a giant roar of approval.

Closest I'll likely ever get to starting a riot.

Jets 1.0 - goes all the way back to the WHA years. 1976 to be precise. I was twelve years old and that was my birthday present, my dad took me. Played the Nordiques and Jets won 10-3. There was a bench clearing brawl too. Fantastic game for a kid but made better because I was even allowed to have a Coke, popcorn and my dad didn't try to leave early to beat the traffic. None of those three things ever happened at any other game.

Jets 2.0 - first preseason shift/game. Guys in our group thought I was nuts taking a preseason game so early in our draft, but that was the very first Jets 2.0 game in the MTS Centre and I wasn't going to miss out. It was playoff game atmosphere.

Non-Jets - watching my kid win a national championship in volleyball as a starter and team captain. Nothing compares.

The playoffs last year when the MTS Centre was dressed in white and we were all up on our feet screaming "GO JETS GO" for the entire commercial break. It was insane.

The fun in 1984/85 of having a dominant Bomber team ( with almost half of the all star team that year being bombers) and a top NHL team( that had the most players on that all star team other than Edmonton).

I was a spritely 13 year old young Jets fan getting ready to watch Hawerchuck's Jets spank Marcel Dionne's Kings on our tv. Then my dad came into the livingroom and asked if I wanted to go to the game. I was stunned, even though the Jets were in Winnipeg it never occurred to me that we could go watch hockey games live in our city. I said yes! We had the nosebleed section but I enjoyed that game - totally different feel than watching on tv. The Kings beat us that night but I will not forget the impression of how great it was to be up there.

I'm always going to remember waiting outside in the middle of winter with my older brother and mom back during Teemu's rookie season (I was 7). Got pictures and autographs with a bunch of the guys, Teemu was such a nice guy. He was scared of autographing his rookie card because he didn't want to "devalue" it. The polar opposite was Tie Domi, guy couldn't be bothered to even stop for an autograph or really even acknowledge we were there freezing in -30 weather to see them. I might have been young, but as far as sports memories go it's right up there for me.

Why didn't you just wait inside? Most of the players including the visitors were happy to sign autographs while they were still inside!

By all accounts I've ever heard, Teemu was a class act from sunrise to sunset. He's my own personal counter example whenever I criticize ******* players and get "U mad bro? don't be jealous cause he's good".

Non Jets.....went to the first game where Gretzky returned to Edmonton after being traded to LA. Went with Tiger Williams, who was doing PR for my business. Got into the dressing room(LA). Great memories. Oilers fans were great. Everyone loved the great one.

Dave Ellet's over time goal. I remember exploding when this happened.

That is definitely tops for me.

There are about 50 Jets 1.0 memories that will be at or near the top of the list, along with the Blue Jays World Series wins.

People will hate me here, but also at the top is the Oilers 2006 run to the Stanley Cup final. So unlikely, so many heroes, it was a real thrill watching and the closest a team I've ever followed has made it to winning the Cup.
